Have to ask my ta to upgrade my cabin?

I was on a wait list for a different cabin. I check everyday for availability, as Regent never informs my TA. So...I called Regent to request the upgrade since my TA is currently in Asia on the Voyager. I was put on hold while they called her agency so they could get permission to upgrade me. Just wondering if this is common practice or just laziness on Regents end? I need an ok to book a higher cabin?

This may explain it. The OK needed is for Regent to speak with you instead of your agent (quote from Erica Silverstein, CC Senior Editor):

"...if you book your cruise with a travel agent, you'll have to carry out all communications with the cruise line through the agent, which can sometimes slow the process down if your agent is unavailable".

If your TA is not proactively taking care of this, you need to get a different TA. They should be checking every day.

And if your TA is out of town, they should have another to take over seamlessly. This is how my TA works.
