First night dining options - which is least hectic?

We haven't cruised with Viking yet, but we board the Viking Sun December 15th. We've cruised with Holland America and Azamara quite a bit, and found the first night, main dining room can be hectic and slow. What have past Viking Ocean cruisers experienced? Would it be best to dine at the World Cafe? We can't book specialty restaurants until we board - otherwise that could have been a good option. Suggestions?

Thank you!

Ate in The Restaurant on the first evening on Homelands cruise, no problems.

Other cruises and guest mixes might be different though I don't know why.

If The Restaurant doesn't suit you, go upstairs to the World Cafe which I suspect might be busy. Not possible to forecast.

And who knows, there well may be seating available in the specialty restaurants. Stop by the reservation desk in the World Cafe, by the starboard door, when you board.

I had a delicious steak and salad in the world cafe for the first night.
