Quality of Laundry Service

I assume that the ship washes/dries your clothes in industrial strength machines.

At home I hang t-shirts etc to drip dry after the wash...avoiding shrinkage and other damage. Really, just underpants, towels and bedding go into the dryer (I use commercial machines...live in apt building).

If you send clothing (t-shirts, pants etc) to the ship laundry, do they come back "smaller" (let's not blame this on weight gain)?

We have a 14 night cruise coming up and I like to pack light.

I used it for the first time on my last trip. Nothing shrunk and they came back nicely pressed. The only problem I had was with whites.Some were gray (I was able to bleach them white again at home) but some came back pink and were a loss. So...in my experience it was fine but I personally wouldn't send out whites. Others have reported that their whites came back fine. Maybe it was because my whites were cotton? I don't know.

While gesticulating on rolling seas, I managed to spill an entire glass of red wine on my white denim skirt. NCL got it out! :) I did not notice any shrinkage.

I just did laundry twice on the Pearl. Jeans, shorts, shirts and tee shirts and nothing shrank.

Laundry came back perfect and folded. No shrinkage or color changes.

You can specify on the bag cold water wash if you prefer that.

Colors and as such you can't have NCL being responsible for first time laundering of these.

So you buy something in the Gift Shop or off the ship at a vendor and trust NCL to launder

these like you would do at home taking all the usual precautions of cold water wash and

washing like items and first time laundering separately - NCL can wash these separately

but expect an additional service charge and not the bargain bundle deal.

Best that your cruise wardrobe be of clothing that has been thru the laundry mill a few

times and if you have to buy replacements while on the cruise that you save the laundry

to when you have the opportunity to control the wash.

Dry Cleaning - Yes NCL can do that but remember that NCL is the FreeStyle cruising line.

and there are few occasions to wear dress up stuff.

Overall my experience with the NCL laundry has been just fine - EXCEPT for those darn

scratchy ID tags iron glued to the collar or waist band in the most sensitive area.

The bundled laundry deal offered mid-cruise is a good deal - at least you don't have to

bring a slug-fest of quarters and take time out do the laundry - get an iron - find an ironing

board and put up with competition to use the same facilities prime time.

Is it that hard to remove those tags?

weve sent laundry out several times now, comes back perfect, no shrinkage.

We were on the Jade recently and sent a bag of laundry. It came back way nicer than I expected. Even tee shirts were hung on hangers and without wrinkles....better looking than my home laundry.

That said, I would never send any delicates. Several years ago I sent a favorite pair of capris and they came back with the fabric finish gone. I bring Tide packets to do sink laundry for delicates on longer cruises and plastic hangers.

We have used ship laundry many, many times, even before receiving the Platinum perk. Never had Tee shirts or anything else shrink. Have always been extremely pleased with the service.

Not usually. We just peel them off.

We cruise multiple times a year and always use the ship's laundry. We have never had any problems.

Not usually. We just peel them off.

Be careful the tags are hot ironed on to each piece of clothing.

If the tags are ironed on to or near a seam - pulling hard may pull the stitches out.

Process varies by ship as to the method used to attach ID clothing tags to prevent loss.

Have not had problems on the STAR - once each on the DAWN and SUN.

Wished that NCL would place tags on the bottom hem of shirts instead of in or near the collar.

Other than that I am pleased with the laundry service.

Something to note you can have laundry done any day of your cruise - just take a look at

the pricing on the inventory list and get ready for sticker shock - which makes the bundled

deal a hands down deal at $20 a bag as many items as you can stuff into it - after -5- pieces

of clothing the Casino awaits your savings.

If Platinum you too can have your laundry done any day of the cruise and free !

Well "it all comes out in the wash" or so it is said. Any dirty stuff is commingled with other dirty stuff and

and the dirt goes away down the recycle drain - I would be more concerned as to what the recycle would be. :confused:

Someone said to clean up your act - well l am waiting ! LOL !

You can bring a packet of liquid or a pod and do laundry in your bathtub if you have one. I did it using our jacuzzi tub on the Reflection and it came out fine.

I also used the laundry on the Epic and had no issues, no fancy clothes just pants and golf shirts underwear etc..

No. I'm sleeping on sheets and using towels that have been washed with 1000's of others. I imagine similar underwear substances/cooties are a potential on all mass washings :-)

We did the laundry deal on the Epic last month. We sent it out on Tuesday morning and it was to be returned by Thursday evening. We actually had it back Tuesday night! One of the items was a pair of white pants that had a stain on them. They got the stain out. None of our items had tags on them either.

I do not send anything I usually I hang dry at home in the laundry bag - it all goes through the dryers. I wash my no shrink items in the cabin and hang them to dry in the bathroom.

Never had any issues with laundry. I suggest someday doing a ship tour behind the scenes. The laundry facility is quite the set up. It also makes you appreciate how hard the crew works. Its one of the busiest parts of the ship with not only personal laundry but all the sheets and towels for the entire ship.

None of our items had tags on them either.

Since the Behind the Scenes Tour is limited to just a few folks at a time all that hard crew work is not seen to be

appreciated. The Laundry facility operates 24/7/365 - personal laundry aside - all the towels bedding sheets and

bed covers linen napkins table cloths all the crew uniforms dry cleaned or laundry the crew also has an in house

tailor/seamstress facility. A ship like the DAWN will launder 24k (24,000) napkins DAILY.

The laundry facility should be videoed and made available on one of the in house TV channels.

The 20 to 30 minute tour through the laundry only views a fraction of the laundry operation.

We're getting ready to go on a 7 day cruise on the Getaway tomorrow. Since we get back on Dec 24th, my son and his family will need to do some laundry as they will immediately head off to visit family over XMAS the following day.

Does NCL offer special laundry bag deals on 7 day cruises or will they just have to do laundry in the Haven's laundromat as that's where our cabins are? If they have to use the laundromat, can you purchase soap there and what are the prices per load if anyone knows? Thanks!
