proudmummy2014 Posted August 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2018 We will be in Sydney for a few nights next month, prior to boarding our cruise. Wondering where people would suggest for a birthday dinner in Sydney, group of 6, weeknight, child friendly, mains <$30 & harbour views. We will be staying near Circular Quay so either walking distance or ferry. Thanks in advance. Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted August 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2018 Harbour views and mains < $30 could be a problem. Buckleys, on the eastern side of Circular Quay, is the only one I can think of. It's a very casual eatery but the food is decent and they have a kids menu. https://www.buckleyssydney.com.au/

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted August 4, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 4, 2018 If OP is thinking in USD, it may be a bit easier.... Good point. And is that US $30 plus 20% tip? A US $30 main without tip would be around AU $40. A US $30 main with 20% tip, so US $36 total, would be around AU $48. That makes quite a difference to the choice of restaurants

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted August 4, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Now we are getting into "Quay" territiory... 😎 Nowhere near! Only two options there now - the ten course tasting menu at $275pp, and the six course tasting menu at $210. Plus drinks, of course.
buchhalm Posted August 4, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 4, 2018 Shows when I have been to THAT place last.. ☺ and then the company was paying.. Ripples, over at Milsons Point should fit the bill.

Quay has just had a major revamp and they've decided to only do the degustation menus. it only reopened late last month. Yes, Ripples would be nice. I'd forgotten about that, it's a while since I've been there. Our favourite Circular Quay restaurant is the Sydney Cove Oyster Bar but it's probably a bit expensive and I'm not sure how well it caters for kids. Swissmiss6253 Posted August 4, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 4, 2018 She has "mummy" spelled like that in her name so I would say it is AUD. I think Darling Harbour is the best bet. Or that City News place on Circular Quay? Not really views and not really dining but meets the price point.
TeeRick Posted August 7, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Did you want something right on the Quay? The main dining area just 2 min off the Quay is called The Rocks. A lot more dining choices there by far. We stayed in Sydney post cruise for 5 nights this year at the Marriott and usually walked over to The Rocks area. proudmummy2014 Posted August 9, 2018 Author #15 Share Posted August 9, 2018 Thanks all. Born & bred Australian :) Does not need to be in the Quay exactly, just looking for suggestions with harbour views for a birthday dinner. We have visited Sydney a bit so familiar with some of the areas, e.g. Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Manly, Watsons Bay.
