We've done well at "new" ports by looking on hotels.com or another booking site, specifically looking for a brand we know with transportation to the cruise terminal. They will identify distance from a "landmark" you specify, so we use filters for cruise terminal.

There are lots of choices. Do you want south beach? Do you want close to airport? We love south beach with a 15 taxi ride to port. The Hotel at South Beach is great. About 300 a night which isn’t expensive for south beach. Or there is holiday inn at port of Miami which is about 175 to 200 with a $10 taxi ride. Or lots of hotels around airport which may provide free transport to port. We always like to go in day or two ahead and enjoy ambiance of area.

I recommend Best western Premier at MIA then pay 40 r/t shuttle to port . We stayed in May pre cruise

and paid 100.00 very good comfy beds on site restaurant. Check several hotel sites as rates can vary

We've stayed in South Beach and a Holiday Inn near the Bayshore area. Both were good depending on the amount of time you have pre-cruise

Keep in mind what has been good for one person might not be good for you. It depends on your priorities. Proximity to port? Bar/restaurant on site? Sleeper sofa in addition to bed? The options in Miami are varied. If you want a quality recommendation you'll need to tell us more.
