Using phone camera

I rented a 150-600 zoom for my DSLR on the Alaska cruise (had it shipped to my pre-cruise lodging in Seattle) and when I tested it I realized I needed something to stabilize it and I had left my tripod & monopod at home. Luckily Amazon had same-day shipping to where we were staying and I just got an inexpensive monopod

Focal length of lens on a DSLR is going to give you much crisper pictures. The dedicated chips for a DSLR are going to give you much better color.

For most people a phone camera is plenty of quality, especially for just social media use, but for even an amateur photographer even a low end DLSR is going to be leaps and bounds better than a phone.

I use a Canon 5D Mk2, but I no longer travel with it. I just purchased a point and shoot Sony RX100V for vacation shots and street shots.

It all depends on what you want to do with it.
