We actually had a rain free day.

Our trees are usually bare by this time -- not this year and very little color.

Our Oak tree changed to a bit of golden color instead of brown this year:

Some color on the maple trees which still has a lot of leaves left on it.

Even the Mimosa trees are still hanging onto their leaves which are still green!

In the Northeast, winter is heralded by the last of the fall colors fading to brown and mornings are crisp with a touch of frost on the lawn. People start breaking out the heavy coats, scarves and earmuffs to battle the blustery winds. In the Midwest, the fields are turned under to await the new crops to come in spring. The Northwest’s normally rainy weather is made gloomier by shorter days. The South is invaded by legions of Snowbirds fleeing the aforementioned signs of the coming season. In Southern California we really don’t get any clear-cut signs that actual winter is upon us, so we just call it “Winter” when the days are cool enough that the dog needs a sweater.

I wish we had more signs of winter down here in Florida - but alas the only thing that clues us in at all is the traffic increases 200%, and most of the plates read NJ, NY, MA, MI, Ontario, & Quebec.

Fortunately OTHER types of birds also come down for winter...the kind I like. And with the DST hours over, the sun sets at the perfect time for a bird photographer - early enough to get in a full day of shooting in golden light right up to the sun dropping behind the horizon, yet I'm still home well before dinner time.

Some Saturday birds, on a gorgeous day:
