3rd & 4th person charges

I've been doing dummy bookings trying to find the best prices for my family of four. Seems like if you get a good rate for the 1st two people they just jack up the cost for the 3rd & 4th so once everything averages out you're not really saving much by booking the lower fares. Any once else notice this? Am I missing something?

Yes, We noticed this to on our upcoming trip on the Allure. This is the reason we choice to get 2 rooms instead of 1... ended up almost the same price!:rolleyes:

I'm wondering whether cabins holding more than 2 are a different category and thus command a higher price.

Yes, this was exactly the case for us.

We also ended up booking 2 rooms for only $100 more than the cost of putting all 4 of us in one room

Wow I need to look into the 2 room thing. An extra bathroom would be so nice. Were you guys able to get connecting rooms?

Initially no.. we had side by side rooms. But this week the price on our cruise went down and I was able to upgrade to connecting rooms in a better location for free. Very happy:D

The 3/4 person rate is basically for food and entertainment, relatively fixed costs. When they drop a rate they typically drop the rate for the room but the other portions of the costs remain the same, therefore only passenger 1/2 gets the lower rate. Also, depending on the sailing, the costs for the fixed portion of the cruise could be higher, thus making the 3/4 rate seem higher than other sailings.

I noticed this too. On an upcoming cruise the military rate was great for two people but our infant would cost more than us!

We found it cheaper to get two rooms also. One balcony and one interior across the hall. With a senior discount for my MIL, we actually saved $360 by moving to two rooms.

I added a third person to my cruise last week and his fare was cheaper by $25. I did not book through RC though.

If you are talking about the C&A points, the answer is no. Each passenger gets their own points, no matter who books and pays for the cabin.

We just booked a JS on the Liberty next December with a resident rate for $456pp and the 3/4 rate was $919. Needless to say we got the kids their own room. ( a balcony next door at $330pp)

I know. I could hardly believe it when I saw it. Dec 20 to 24. Price even with the resident rate has jumped by $150.

Now I need to get a condo in FLL for the week after.
