In port taxes for drinks before set sail?

Recommended Posts

This may vary by port, or might be a nonissue altogether, but say if you were to purchase a single drink or even an alcohol package before setting sail and leaving port, would your purchase be subject to sales tax?

In a US port, single drinks have sales tax added. I know wine packages do not have taxes added, and I don't believe the unlimited alcohol packages have tax added either.

I ask the bartender to leave my tab open until we are underway. They have always accommodated this request. Saves a little $$ but I'm Irish so you'll probably understand.

Thought I heard bartenders telling PAX that sales tax would be added to drink package if bought before sailing out of Florida port. Never got the package myself (free drinks in CL, DL) so not absolutely sure about this.
