A Carnival rep recently told us that if you have a warrant out for your arrest, they will let you cruise, then arrest you when the ship docks.

That is because CBP does a check against the manifest prior to arrival.

Seen this a few times.

Best advise, if you have a warrant best to not cruise or you will get arrested on your return

Seems like if you had a warrant, they wouldn't want you to leave the country. Hmmm. I guess that was their last hurrah for a while.

CBP does not get the manifest until shortly before departure, and then need to vet every passenger on the list, so they could not stop anyone from boarding. Also, just having an outstanding warrant will not result in arrest, only if the jurisdiction where the warrant was issued requests remand.

I was on Splendor from NY 4 years ago and while we were at sea on the way down to FL and Bahamas, a lady got busted for stealing from the FUN shops. She was taken off in handcuffs when we docked in Port Canaveral.

There are lots of ways to leave the ship in handcuffs. Here is a recent article on a guy arrested for illegal porn. It seems he was on a watch list and they took the opportunity to check out his electronics.

Usually police would need probable cause and a warrant to search you, but not when you are coming into the country. They get a free pass to search to their heart's content.

Ahhh, that makes more sense now.

There were 2 additional people nabbed in the terminal by CBP while we waited in the long line to be cleared. We would never have seen it if the people in the US PASSPORT ONLY line who were ahead of us had not had birth certificates and licenses. It took the officer forever to type in their information. We saw them taken with their luggage into the room to be searched. They came out in handcuffs led by CBP officers just as we cleared immigration. Our porter alerted us to stand back or we would have run right into them.
