I am taking a group on a cruise in March and while Im not new to cruising, I have a couple new issues I need to get info on. One of my friends has a pacemaker and an implantable loop recorder that monitors her heart. Will she need to avoid the security scanner ? And if so, is this a simple protocol ? Does anyone have experience that I can pass on to her ? Thanks for reading!

Just as your friend disclosed to the TSA at airports about the implants , he/she is to do exactly the same when going thought port security as well as security on board the ship.

Thanks for all your advice. The pacemaker and loop recorder are new so she's never traveled with him before.

When I get to the front of the TSA line, I tell them that I am requesting a pat down since I will not go thru the archway because you have a pacemaker. Be sure they do not use the wand as that is as bad or even worse than the archways.

On the ship I do the same. Ask for a pat down telling them that you have a pacemaker. Sometimes I have a little bit of a wait, for a female agent to do the pat down but never had any other problems.
