Cruising as a couple july 7-14

My boyfriend and I are planning to arrive in Honolulu on July 5 to tour the island before cruising. We are planning to rent a car to explore the island. Any suggestions on self-touring? We're also looking forward to chatting and meeting others on this cruise.

If you do happen to be from Washington, as "DCL8DY" suggests, do not forget to consider the six-hour time difference between there and Honolulu. Hawaii time may be only 6 p.m., but your body says midnight. There is so much to do and it all may seem tempting, but figure in some time to acclimate if you can and not push to see everything.
