Victoria Craigdarroch Castle Excursion Warning for mobility impaired

Recommended Posts

As an FYI to those that may be mobility impaired, the Celebrity Craigdarroch Castle tour description does not tell you that you have to walk up a steep uphill city block to get to the castle as tour buses are not allowed to park in the lot behind the castle. After visiting the castle you then have to walk back down the hill. The excursion description only informed of the 87 steps in the castle (approximately 15-20 steps between each level) in total which you can choose or not choose to do to explore all of the castle levels. Once inside you explore the castle on your own although there are some staff present to answer questions. There are a few chairs you can sit on in each level if you need to rest. There are no elevators. Public restrooms are in the adjacent accessible gift shop building. That being said, the castle is beautiful and very interesting. However, I felt the tour did not allow enough time to adequately explore all the levels/artifacts in depth and read all the educational signs. The excursion also included a city tour around Victoria on the bus which was also very nice.
