Magic problems

Recommended Posts

I agree! So many of us have had port changes due to weather, mechanical issues, medical emergencies- A ship operates 24/7- things will happen. But to have to deal with no AC or hot tubs not working, this is a different story.

Pat

Weather and medical emergencies are out of their hands and I totally accept that's out of carnivals control. But crew issues and mechanical are 100% carnivals problem and fault. The airlines don't have to reimburse or compensate for weather or emergencies but they do for crew issues and maintence issues, shouldn't be any different for the cruise lines.

Here's the latest from John Heald when someone asked about the Magic status and A/C not working:

"Good morning _____, all is working as normal and it is only the speed of the ship that is for this cruise meaning a change of itinerary. I will have news soon as to any future changes but everyone is on board and having a brilliant time as I hope you will be soon. cheers."

DW got off the Magic this morning and the A/C in her cabin on Deck 10 did not work for the entire cruise. Maybe this is "normal."

I’m guessing 6/30 sailing will cut Mahogany Bay as it’s the farthest port

And the reason I booked this cruise

We have been to Cozumel and Belize, and Costa Mayo

Am aware that is the port they will probably drop, but logistically they could drop Costa Mayo.

This sux.

If there is no A/C as well 50.00 credit is not gonna compensate. 50% credit would be more like it.

Agreed. Dropping a port I can handle. No A/C...not so much.

I wouldn't want to be on any ship with no a/c. It is very hot right now in Sarasota and I definitely don't want to sweat my A$$ off on vacation. We went to a wedding on the Magic yesterday and while walking through the casino it seemed pretty warm. We have several family members on this sailing.

I seriously doubt there is "No A/C". From reading through this thread it sounds like one or two people have reported warm cabins, which could be from any number of reasons. People report warm cabins on every single cruise. I find it highly unlikely that a ship would sail at all with no A/C, and difficult to believe that a propulsion problem would manifest itself that way. The ship is obviously still generating power and the issue appears to be in the propulsion system's ability to use that power, not in the generation of it.

Was on the Magic last week and there was “No A/C” in many cabins and areas of the ship. Our sons were in one of those rooms. When they complained and tried to get a fan, they were told there were no more fans available as they were being used by others with no A/C. And in talking to various cruisers around the pool, there were others in same situation.

My cabin had A/C but it wasn’t super strong and on the final evening it was very warm in the room.

Sounds like ship cannot generate enough power to run A/C. Would think they would tell passengers what is actually going on instead of telling people everyone is having a brilliant time

I messaged John Healds Facebook page thins working. We wrote back and said details about the Magic will be released soon. That’s it. Didn’t deny there were AC problems like last time. Hopefully it’s fixed soon.

We cruise in 55 days and I am nervous.

Mine is in 26 days and I passed nervous a couple of days ago. I imagine those sailing before then are moving towards full-blown panic. If Carnival knows what the solution is, it would really help to let everyone know - whether good news or bad.

DW was on last week's cruise on the Magic. She's done 45 cruises on Carnival and actually likes to keep the cabin temperature warm and would be happy with 80F. She certainly knows what typical Carnival cabin temperatures are. When she complains that the cabin is too hot, then it must have been above 80F. She was traveling with several other veteran Carnival cruisers who were staying on Deck 10 and all reported the same issue.

A quick google search will show how propulsion problems limits the amount of energy produced thus affecting ship's speed, A/C, hot tubs and anything else that uses power.

Another easy search will show you how common these problems are in all cruise-ship lines.

Just recently as in April 2018 Royal Caribbean / Radiance of the Seas had to cancel an upcoming 11 night cruise to conduct necessary repairs on the ship's Azipod propulsion system. They offered full refund and a 100% future cruise credit.

In December 2017 the Carnival Triumph canceled their next day's cruise. They offered a full refund and a 25% future cruise credit.

Things happen...it's the response by the cruise line that matters.

Next month would be our make up cruise following last fall's tragedies. As much as there were many problems with Carnival's actions that had nothing to do with the hurricanes, we chose to try the same itinerary again this year, earlier in the hurricane season, and I feel like right now that there is the same uncertainty as there was last year following a major hurricane.

I do NOT want something for nothing...I did NOT get ANYTHING for nothing last year.

It is unnerving to be here worried about an upcoming cruise which it is pretty clear there are/will be problems with, if it even happens at all, when we should just be building up excitement for an upcoming trip.

I just hope they will let us know in advance, ASAP what their course of action will be so that we can make alternate plans if needed.

This is really depressing! We are booked on the 7 July sailing and instead of the usual excitement that comes with being less than 2 weeks out from our cruise, we are worried about whether or not we’re going to have A/C in our room or even if we’re going to get cancelled altogether. We booked a room on the spa deck specifically for the perk of having access to the T-pool so having that out of commission would be a huge bummer as well (I am assuming that problems with the hot tubs also means problems with the T-pool). Can anyone confirm if these issues are effecting the Spa deck amenities?

I am praying that these issues are fixed before we board in 13-days!

I'm on the July 7th sailing too. This is a special cruise for me....as I'm sure it is for others...as I'm taking my 18 year old granddaughter on her first cruise. Very worried that we will get cancelled. Wish they would be updating the status and letting everyone know what to expect.

I am most interested in information from people currently on the ship, as we are set to depart this Saturday.

Carnival should be more forthcoming, as we have an all-day private tour in Roatan that I would like to cancel as a Courtesy to the vendor, as it appears that port may be dropped.

AC issues need to be described in detail.

I know this is mostly speculation, but we haven’t book our plane tickets for July 28 sailing yet. I almost pulled the trigger yesterday, as they were having a fare sale, but all these rumored problems stopped me. Any way our sailing gets canceled? I hate to lose the airfare.

Wrong. That may have been true in the days of direct-drive diesel propulsion systems where the same engines drive generators AND (through gear reduction) propeller shafts. But the Magic uses diesel-electric propulsion. The engines have one job only, and that is to generate electricity. A motor failure, or a partial motor failure would not impact hotel systems like cabin power, lighting, and cooling.

Now we can debate whether the Magic is having HVAC issues or not, but they're not related to failure of propulsion motors. Neither are the so-called hot tub issues. I'm pretty sure the hot tubs aren't driven by the propulsion motors no matter what your "quick Google search" tells you.

If anything, the ship should have an abundance of excess power available with one motor only operating at half power as suspected.

A novel idea... So what if the info they are currently posting (that is that future cruises are unaffected and the problem is/will Be soon resolved ) IS ACTUALLY THE TRUE INFO? Everyone keeps saying that they are not telling you what is happening... but what if, what if THAT is the reality of the situation??? I know impossible... but what would they announce? “He cruisers... we really really mean it that the problem has been fixed and beginning with the June 30 cruise we will maintain itinerary”? Regarding the wild speculation about Roatan being dropped I have yet to see or hear ANY evidence that ANY ports outside of St Thomas this week have been dropped... so until ANYONE can provide any concrete info (other than a random “travel agent somewhere called someone” story) that the itinerary is affected I think starting rumors that the port of Roatan has been dropped is definitely premature! Anyway... carry on with the speculation and panic spreading...
