Emotional Support Animals No Longer Allowed on Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships

Recommended Posts

Did this really happen???

YES THIRSTDAY, it really happened (If I'm going to make something up it won't be about a support dog!) and I've been wracking my brain to remember which ship. I am often comped (fully or partially) by the Blue Chip or Casino Royal "Clubs" and so always introduce myself to the casino host/ess. I went to do this and the hostess was carrying around a small fluffy dog (papillon I THINK but I didn't ask). I mentioned "I didn't realize staff and crew could bring their dogs aboard" and she said it was a casino player's emotional support dog. I asked where the owner was and was told only that she was "playing". While the dog itself didn't bite, bark, yap or anything like that I was still very much bothered. I'm concerned that if can cast skepticism on others who have true service dogs... like gee I wonder why this person brought his/her dog.

Also true service dogs, while working, aren't supposed to be pet and fondled and carried around by strangers.

I'm surprised Royal would issue such a statement: "Service animals that are formally trained and certified to perform a function are still welcome onboard with the proper paperwork and certifications.

The ADA clearly states: "Staff cannot ask about the person’s disability, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the dog, or ask that the dog demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task."

Royal can only ask if the animal is required because of a disability and what task does he perform. Liars are gonna lie.

I think Royal may be trying to curb the non service animals by putting this out and I hope it works.

I hope this is effective across all the RCCL brands. I'm sorry but the dippy dog in the baby stroller and the "support dog" being held by the casino hostess while the owner gambled...

Maybe the dog was not yet old enough to gamble.

Well here comes the next 50 threads on why can't I bring my service pig, goat, rabbit, donkey, fish lion, elephant..I'm being discriminated against.......

The only problem I had with my elephant was on the tender. Fortunately elephants can swim.

Oh drat - I’ve been searching the web to get certification for my emotional support iguana, Jack (Daniels) to be recognised as a service iguana. I really don’t know how I could continue cruising if Jack didn’t let me know when the alcohol content of my blood had dropped to such a level that I urgently need to find a bar.

My son suffers from PTSD after serving in the Middle East he has a true service dog with papers from the VA stating that he needs this animal for support. Yes some people do have fake service dogs for emotional support but not all emotional support animals are fakes. I know quite a few veterans that need the support these dogs give them.

Please thank your son for his service and sacrifice.

Wouldn’t this dog be a Service Dog?

There's a HUGE difference between service dogs and "emotional support " animals. PTSD dogs are service animals and they are welcome everywhere.

I guess people using scooters or wheelchairs are next. I use a scooter when cruising which allows me pretty much use of the ship i cannot walk more than a few feet at a time. Ive heard the remarks behind my back, cowards would not address me face to face. Oh boy, i think some people should read Mein Kaumpf. Get the picture?

I have no issue with scooters and I insure they can make it on the elevator.

I say this as long as they are kept in the cabin and not the hallway. I know they fit in accessible cabins.

Hallelujah!!!!!

.....Service dogs welcome; pets don't belong on cruise ships

.....Scooters and wheelchairs are welcome as long as they are not left unoccupied in the hallway - it's a safety issue

How about folks who use giant jogging strollers on the ship? I'd rather see a tiny dog stroller

I'm just shocked at the audacity to ask a hostess member babysit a pet. I am all for not allowing emotional support animals on vacation vessels. And if needed on an airline, they should be properly contained. I thought I saw it all when I read a news report of a woman demanding to let her peacock fly with her on an airplane.

I've never seen a Service animal in a stroller of any type....only Foo-Foo pets disguised as an emotional support animal dressed in a tutu and on one occasion I observed two Foo-Foo pets on board in their (side by side) twin stroller.
