Nassau - what to do: walking distance, best beach, local tours etc?

Thank you all for the information here. We have a cruise coming up and have about 10 folks who want to walk around Nassau together rather than by ourselves. This map with the turn by turn directions is great and really helps in making a big circle and reaching all points.

Was in Nassau earlier this month. The walking tour above is good, however, not a lot of intersections have street signs (so it's hard to know where you are -- so be warned!) Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle are worth going to. We went to one other place not on the map: John Watling's Distillery. The entrance is on Delancy St, between West and Augusta Streets - they served a great Piña Colada.

What are some of the best purchases you've made in Nassau? Good souvenir choices ? Thanks.

Locally made soaps. Locally dyed sarong. Jerk seasoning mix.

We are cruising very soon and these are three of the places that we wanted to check out. Thanks for tips on the Street names (or lack thereof).

This is the walking tour we created and did last Thanksgiving. I would end the walk at Junkanoo beach bar, not worth the walk or money to go to Fish Fry. I am 63 and not the best of shape and was able to complete. At least walk to Queens Staircase and then everything else is down hill. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Nassau+Walking+Tour/Queen's+Staircase/Fort+Fincastle/Government+House/Graycliff+Hotel+%26+Restaurant/St.Francis+Xavier+Cathedral/John+Watling%C2%B4s+Distillery/Junkanoo+Beach+(a+beach)/Goldie's+Conch+House/Straw+Market/@25.0762845,-77.3574568,15z/am=t/data=!3m1!4b1!4m62!4m61!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d04505130c5:0xf28d547dad31a7c3!2m2!1d-77.3404288!2d25.0782955!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d06abee5961:0x6338d56dc6c38c3d!2m2!1d-77.3378179!2d25.0738372!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7ce546d4bd2d:0xf10fbc5cdc90cf7e!2m2!1d-77.33852!2d25.0735953!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d1caf44c6fd:0xe14903e94241c8e6!2m2!1d-77.3445849!2d25.0758295!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d191ad5ef75:0x5054a8994ba1f6d2!2m2!1d-77.345546!2d25.075836!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d1c72c1f705:0x29794928365647dd!2m2!1d-77.3481455!2d25.0758643!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d1c41380a5f:0xbb69f09798099186!2m2!1d-77.3491412!2d25.0741003!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d1bd7293e6b:0x107f4905755613a7!2m2!1d-77.349341!2d25.0789552!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d239ade5fdb:0x8b2219302d247d34!2m2!1d-77.3597681!2d25.0798706!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f6321140b93cf:0x61c54bcad60e3aed!2m2!1d-77.3433899!2d25.0784597!3e2

Someone mentioned in a earlier post that there was a bus at the ship/port to take you to the terminal. Does anyone know anything about that?

Nassau port is huge and it can be a long walk. They have small buses that go back and forth between the ships and the terminal to cut down on your walking.

If you go to YouTube and look for videos of people missing ships in Nassau, you can sometimes see these buses. :D

I've never used one, but I'm assuming they are free and tips are appreciated.

No admission fee at Atlantis to see the Chihuly sculptures. If mobility isn't an issue, you can take a water taxi across the bay (when you come out of the cruise terminal, there is a kiosk on the right). Then it's a short(ish) walk to the Atlantis. There were four sculptures in the casino.

My husband and I were in Nassau last May on the Celebrity Eclipse. We purchased a Day Pass for the British Colonial Hotel through “Resort for a Day” website and it proved to be a very pleasant experience. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk or 5 minute cab ride from the port and although we had a mid afternoon departure we were still able to enjoy the hotel facilities ie pool, private beach, bar and restaurant.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a snorkel trip?

In August we did the sail and snorkel trip, booked through RCI.

A short walk, boat trip on a catamaran, then snorkeling. The snorkeling was off the island owned by Eddie Murphy. :)

Nice afternoon.

Thanks for all the great links and the walking tour. I am taking my brother on this trip and he's in a wheelchair. Is the walking tour accessible by wheelchair?
Some of the sidewalks are not smooth or wide enough for a wheelchair.
