Singapore & S.East Asia - Activity & Currency Advice Needed

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this query. In December my partner and I are travelling with Holland America to the following destinations:

Koh Samui, Thailand (1 day)

Bangkok, Thailand (2 days)

Sihanoukville, Cambodia (1 day)

Phu My, Vietnam (1 day)

Nha Trang, Vietnam (1 day)

Da Nang (Hue), Vietnam (1 day)

Halong Bay, Vietnam (1 day)

We've never travelled to these locations before and understand that USD is not a viable currency in each location. So we'd like to ask the following questions:

  1. Is it worth just taking USD and hoping to get a good exchange rate at the ports in question? Are these exchange rates typically a poor deal?
  2. Is there any advice on how much currency (local or USD) we should we take for each port to be safe?
  3. As we only have 1 or 2 days in each location, is there any advice on MUST DOS for each port?

Once again, thanks so much for any advice you can provide.

Best Regards,

Alex

For Thailand they prefer local currency. Major places take credit card. For entrance fees where cards are not accepted local currency is needed.

As mentioned Cambodia takes USA currency. You can go either way for Vietnam. We have only used USA currency there and it's been fine.
