Does anyone know what vaccinations are needed for a cruise starting in Florida then visiting Colomba (Cartagena) Panama (Colon) Costa Rica (Puntarenas) Guatamala (Puerto Quetzel) Mexico (PuertoVallarta & Cabo SaLucas) we have confilcting information on Yellow Fever

Any responses would be helpful Thanks Joy & Eric

Yes, I've seen conflicting information too.

On Yellow Fever it's best to check each country's own website, though good luck with that :D.

Worth also checking NATHNAC's website https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries

The requirement for a YF certificate is to safeguard the health of others, not for the benefit of the traveller.

Broadly, if you've visited a high-risk country or area in the previous ten(?) days most countries require you to have a yellow fever certificate (or certificate of exemption - automatically provided by your doctor if over the age of ?60?) .

Even if your age or medical status make you exempt, if the country requires a YF certificate you need an official exemption certificate from your doctor.

No risk in the UK or USA, so no problem in Columbia.

After that it gets complicated, hence conflicting advice.

Cruisers are low-risk - usually a one-day port of call & staying near the coast - so even if it appears that you need a certificate there seems to be leeway for cruisers.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

BTW, YF certificates used to be good for 10 years, now they're good for life. So if you plan to travel to exotic places in the future it might be worth shelling out now.

For other precautions - any need for malaria tabs, for Hep A & B etc, and general advice on clothing etc - book an appointment with your doctor, or more likely the travel nurse at your surgery. I think such visits are still free. They are the only ones who know your medical history etc, so take advice from them rather than from us. Go armed with your itinerary, including any nights ashore or in port, and any plans to travel inland.

Just to echo JB's sound advice about visiting your GP surgery. Our practice has a standard form to fill out listing where you're planning to travel, accommodation type (cruise ship, hotel, backpacking etc.), expected activity (lounging on a beach or tromping around a rainforest e.g.), and then a week or so later we visit the nurse who has put together a list of recommendations, taking into account our medical history.

Enjoy the trip.

As I said conflicting advice looking on websites bit confusing. Boots travel clinic days we need YF whereas our surgery clinic says not but trying to get us to have Rabies vaccine. More confused than ever. Meanwhile going through process of having course of MMR and other childhood vaccines which were not around when we were kids (72 & 69 now) Perplexed of U.K.
