Well, here it is almost 2017 and I just ran across this wonderful thread. I feel compelled to tell Egon's son that after all this time, your father is still making an impression on people. There are very few people who make a real difference in this world and he is one of those people! He has made an impact on my life, and obviously many others who followed his adventures. Thank you to Pat and everyone who posted on here. You are wonderful people to take the time to do this! Happy Holidays to everyone!

Hi to you all who have made such fine comments and make the effort to keep my father's memory alive. It is four years today that his adventure on this plane(t) came to an end... and there continue to be changes in my own life as well... all good and I am grateful for this/these. Life is an adventure, likely not for the faint of heart, and my dad remains an inspiration to me in how to move forward through some adversities, but more to recognize the Joy de Vivre that he expressed most of his life, but especially in the latter years. Perhaps I just recognize them as latter years as I age... reaching now 65 as of May coming up... hard to believe I could have another 30 + to go lol ... oh my!

I need to be reminded of the date of Egons' passing. I always remember the Birthday celebration on Poesea and the Christmas Eve that we searched Cozumel for a room where he could stay while he got treatment for his scooter elevator disaster. I was so pleased that he found a resort where he could stay while the ship was on a charter voyage. That downtown room was a depressing place. Once he discovered free WI FI at a nearby restaurant, he was no longer alone. It was closed on Christmas Eve, but he sat on the concrete steps and connected with us.

I also think fondly of this epic thread, as nothing on cruisecritic has quite captured our minds and hearts in the same way.

If only we had a tenth of your dad’s passion for cruising/life. I hope his posts will always remain on this site.

<<nothing on cruisecritic has quite captured our minds and hearts in the same way>>This is the case for me. I came to your Dad's post after his passing, but spent spent every spare minute over several days reading and catching up with his inspirational tale.

Gone, but not forgotten.

@woodboat Your dad reminds me of Colonel Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame!  What a sweet picture of you two.

I plan on still being cruising and traveling when I get "Old" too (whenever that is)!  😉

I sometimes cruise with friends but since most of them aren't available most of the time I go by myself and love every minute!
