So here is my ? I just booked the Breakaway to bermuda next june and I've never been to bermuda before only the Bahamas, and I found a website that talked about cruising to Bermuda and it said...

" There are some unique aspects of a Bermuda cruise that differ from the norm. A land vacation to Bermuda is expensive, so many choose a cruise as a less expensive alternative and with ships docked overnight in port, use the ship as if it were their “hotel”. During your days/nights docked in Bermuda, entertainment on board is at a minimum. Due to Bermudian laws, cruise ships are strictly regulated as to music on deck, casino operation and presentation of shows. Many of the usual activities enjoyed on board ship, are not provided on a Bermuda cruise. The destination is the reason one takes a Bermuda cruise."

Has anyone ever taken a Bermuda cruise before? Is this True? If so Im seriously considering changing the dates to a different itinerary because we will be docked for almost three days and we very much like the shows and the casino. But what is the point of taking this Itinerary if none of those things will be availible? Any input would greatly help Thanks.

two days down, shows and gambling. 3 days in port, beach, snorkel, enjoy the people and the island. two days at sea for the return, shows and casino. Read some of the reviews, there are people that go to bermuda "every year" because they enjoy it so much. I am going for the first time in May and I am looking forward to enjoying the island and my wife will enjoy prying me out of the casino. Have fun.

Bermuda is a great destination. I am one of those that has done it multiple times. Yes no casino or shops while docked. In reality it is only for the two nights you are in Bermuda. Once the ship leaves the last day the casino opens.

Only you can decide how much not having the casino or shows for those two nights but Bermuda is a great place to visit. I would recommend it.

From everything that I have read the casino and shops are closed when in port. Shows are not affected.
I know the government has been in talks about changing the laws about no gambling while in port but haven't do so yet.

We've been cruising to Bermuda for almost 25 years.

While you're docked in Bermuda the casino and on board shops will be closed. Everything else will be open and operating...restaurants, entertainment, bars...and yes, there can be outdoor music on deck...it just can't extend beyond a certain hour (I forget exactly when...perhaps minight.) The law prohibiting shows was changed many years ago...unfortunately some web sites as well as cruisers who haven't been to Bermuda in years perpetuate the spread of misinformation about no shows being allowed while in port.

Although you're in Bermuda for three days, the casino will be closed only two nights, because the ship departs Bermuda in late afternoon on the third day.

Bermuda is a beautiful, relaxing destination. Don't let the casino being closed for two nights deter you from going. It will be open five nights during your one week cruise.

Im looking foward to going to Bermuda but Im one of those who like the amenities on board more than the excursions. A two and a half day dock seems like your not getting to enjoy the perks of the ship.

The only thing you'll be missing is the casino for two nights. If you're interested in shopping there's more than enough of that in the local stores.

Bermuda is great because you need not limit yourself to just ship excursions. The island is safe and has a very good public transportation system. It is a nice change to explore some and not have to worry about being back on board the same day.

We are one of those who go every year.

Bermuda is amazing. You do not miss all the cruise ship fun for 3 days you are docked. Trust me, do not cancel.

We are on Star to Bermuda this year, and on Breakaway to Bermuda in 2013.

I don't think you will be disappointed. Bermuda is a special place and being able to stay in one location for two or three days will give you the time you need to really explore and enjoy all it has to offer. There will be entertainment on board, and except for two nights you can gamble and shop to your heart's delight during the cruise. It is certainly a different cruise experience but not, to my mind at least, an inferior one.
Plenty of people choose to pay high prices to fly to and stay in Bermuda year after year and don't seem to mind the absence of casinos or a high level of entertainment options.

I've never been to Bermuda, but am going to go in a few months. For what I can tell, the highlights would be:

 1. fishing
 2. beach
 3. aquarium
 4. snorkling
 5. bar hopping.
Is there anything I left out?

You will love a Bermuda cruise...no casino for two nights but there will still be shows. There is so much to see and do...wonderful beaches, great golfing and sightseeing. Try a sunset rum swizzle cruise.

We do Bermuda almost every year over july4 for the best weather and for pure relaxation

Another vote for not cancelling.

My friend and I really enjoyed our cruise there. Trying to figure out when we can go back.

The first day we took the ferry into Hamilton- walked around and shopped for the morning then took the bus to Horseshoe Bay Beach. Absolutely beautiful.

The next day we went to the Crystal Caves- very interesting. Then walked around the corner to the Swizzle Inn, had lunch and cocktails. Back to shop at Dockyards. Dinner and cocktails at Frog & Onion Pub

Last day we took the public bus around for a sort of island tour and stopped at another beautiful beach(name escapes me)

We did not miss the casino one bit.

Barhopping? Everything closes early in Bermuda, except on I think Wednesday nights. And there is really no barhopping at Kings Wharf.

I've sailed there twice a sure didn't see much nightlife there. I think one night on the Wharf they had a night party, but that was pretty much it.

There isn't much nightlife at the dockyard, other than the frog and onion pub (which is pretty good) and the Snorkel park bar. Hamilton, on the other hand, has plenty going on at night along the waterfront and is readily accessible from the dockyard. I remember the ferries running reasonably late when we went in 2008. We'll find out more when we go back this summer.

There hasn't been ferry service from Hamilton to Dockyard in recent years after 8:30 pm, except on Harbour Nights (Wednesday?) when they run extra service.

I have read that beginning at 6:00 p.m. every Wednesday night there is a festival in Hamilton that goes on until very late. Some of the streets are closed off, and there are bars, restaurants and lots of music to enjoy. I am heading down there this May, staying right in Hamilton and plan to check it out.

It's what I referred to in the post immediately preceding yours, Harbour Nights. It runs from about 7 to 10pm. I believe the first one this year is scheduled for May 18.
