Noro on Liberty - Live

Recommended Posts

Noro has struck the Liberty. First indication was 2 days ago. Wash hands, etc. Today, they have barf bags on all the stairways, staff constantly treating surfaces with chlorox, no food being allowed to be taken out of Windjammer, no ice in rooms, arcades closed, no shaking of hands by staff, etc. However, the casino, bingo, etc ., are still running full throttle. Go figure. I would think that you have a better chance of getting transmitting noro playing the slots, blackjact, etc., than from ice, but what do I know.

For next weeks cruisers, I would expect a significant delay getting on as they'll need to wash this ship down.

For those who are on Liberty's next couple of sailings - look for last minute price drops. You usually see them when the news of norovirus breaks out. And don't lean against things like handrails. I lost a suit that way.:(

Momof 2 Girls, you shoould be fine. I've boarded following outbreaks, and with the proper cleanings and personal precautions, everyone was fine. Then it broke out again the following week. I'd say the June 8th trip is screwed - in more ways than one.

Here's just a thought...when traveling to some foreign countries we start taking acidophilus a few days before the trip. I also bring charcoal capsules...never had a sick trip...of course hand gels are a great thing...and we use ours as well as any put out around the ship....best of luck on the upcoming cruises.:)

lazygal: Thank you for letting me know this. It helps some. I am definitely going to bring some hand sanitizer though!

As for price drops, I'm thinking our sailing is sold out or it's too late to book. It's not on the travelocity site.

We will be on Liberty Of the Seas this Saturday 6/2. Hope this is not a real outbreak--yikes... So funny, because I just got back from the drug store and bought Bonine and for the first time ever cruising I bought

Imodium AD--for just in case!!! God, I really hope that doesn't happen. Hey, do you think the alcohol in the drinks helps kill the virus? ;) That would be a fun solution!

Hi Mom2girls! What is the roll call all about? Is it people going on the cruise within a certain time? You seem to be going on my sailing! Do you live in Dade or Broward because I saw your post about the weather. I'm in Broward and the weather is supposed to be rainy Saturday, but nothing is going to dampen my mood! I've been planning this for a year now and sooooo looking forward to it. Tell me about the roll call please... I logged in briefly but it seemed you were on this more recently.

Thanks :)

We just returned home from the maiden voyage. A few of the folks in our group are sick now, could be noro. A friend of mine did a b2b and her son has it onboard. SUCKS! Sanitize folks, sanitize!!!

Noticed your location is FLL "area"....... brought back memories of growing up in Pompano Beach. Just thought I'd say HI and it's great to hear you are choosing to let nothing dampen your mood....after all - it's a cruise! :D

Am I wrong?.... but it seems that the Liberty has had several outbreaks??

Do you think that staff has something to do with it? Or the overall cleanliness of the ship or is it hit or miss?

Just thinking:confused: :)

smileeface: The roll call is for people who are on the same sailing as us. I noticed on the news that there's a storm brewing in the western carribbean. I'm a little concerned, but I know we'll still have fun. I live in Orlando. But, I was born in Broward county.

This was the Liberty's first revenue cruise. There had been no problems prior to that. Folks also need to keep in mind that most of the time passengers bring this on board. Sad that some folks are too lazy to wash their hands after doing their business.

I think you have confused the Liberty of the Seas with some other ship. Its maiden voyage was on May 19th of this year, and there were no reports of outbreaks of noro on any of her pre-inaugural cruises, one of which we were on. The ship is brand new and couldn't have been cleaner. Passengers, rather than crew, are the most likely sources of these outbreaks. You can be sure that the crew is working diligently to sanitize everything and to insure that this situation is not long-lasting, and as others have said this problem is not confined to cruise ships and often pops up in your own community but is frequently not identified as such. There is, however, not a lot that can be done when people from various locations board the ship sometimes unknowingly bringing these illnesses with them.

This is actually the second revenue, or if you want to get technical about it, lolol, it's the first EASTERN caribbean revenue sailing :D

Either way, I totally agree that it is not the ship or the crew, but more than likely the passanger who thinks "Oh, I'll be better in a couple of days" when they board the ship ill. Good hygene would prevent most of the outbreaks if not all.

We were on the maiden voyage and there was no news of any outbreaks.
