poolechick Posted September 27, 2009 #1 Posted September 27, 2009 Do any of you fine folks know if there is a store or market near this hotel where we might pick up some bottled water, wine, beer, snacks...that sort of thing? If so, where and how far a walk is it?
scm Posted September 27, 2009 #2 Posted September 27, 2009 There is a Carrefour about 800 meters away -- short ride on Le Truck. Carrefour is the second largest retailer in the world -- a French peer to a Walmart Supercenter. You can find everything you need there, and some things you didn't know you needed. Madelines, wonderful crusty bread and camembert, inexpensive French wines. Enjoy your shopping!
poolechick Posted September 27, 2009 Author #3 Posted September 27, 2009 I was truly hoping to find something within walking distance. Is there nothing close by?
scb Posted September 27, 2009 #4 Posted September 27, 2009 If I am not mistaken, 800 meters is about 1/2 mile.
wripro Posted September 27, 2009 #5 Posted September 27, 2009 Unfortunately, half a mile is not walking distance for most Americans.
poolechick Posted September 27, 2009 Author #7 Posted September 27, 2009 Unfortunately, half a mile is not walking distance for most Americans. In that kind of humidity it's not. :o
scb Posted September 27, 2009 #8 Posted September 27, 2009 Just curious as to what you would consider walking distance then?
poolechick Posted September 28, 2009 Author #9 Posted September 28, 2009 Just curious as to what you would consider walking distance then? My husband has a medical condition that makes it painful for him to be on his leg longer than 30 minutes or so. Luckily it can be repaired with surgery in December. Clearly with his leg problem and the heat and humidity, we wouldn't be able to walk that far very fast. We were wondering if there was a small market or something within a 10-15 minute walk?
cruisenut2001 Posted September 28, 2009 #10 Posted September 28, 2009 We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and it would be painful for someone with walking or standing pains. The road is up and down to the store, not level. Try to load up on snacks from the ship. Food at the resort is very expensive. The ala carte menu isn't too bad. The shops at the hotel do sell candies and such, as do stores on the islands you'll be going to (bring a big purse. :D). Although, we sailed on Princess I know you'll have a great time. Enjoy the islands.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted September 28, 2009 #11 Posted September 28, 2009 Walking in this climate is certainly different than somewhere more temperate. Especially if it's up and down. I would take Le Truck and stop at the nearest carrefour.
ChatKat in Ca. Posted September 30, 2009 #12 Posted September 30, 2009 We took Le Truck to the market. It stops across from the hotel and directly in front of the grocery store. It's was so much fun to go in and read labels in French. We bought cookies that we thought were crackers to go with the Brie. It was a fun adventure. Have exact change for Le Truck and bring your own grocery bags. They charge for each bag you use. Bread comes unwrapped with a piece of paper around the middle for holding it.
