mafiadon Posted September 27, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2009 I know that you can only get about 300 euros at a time but can you use your debit card more then once in a day if you need more money? Linda
Rare cruisemom42 Posted September 27, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Yes, if you increase your daily withdrawal limit (talk to your bank before you leave) you can withdraw up to that amount daily. It's just that you may have to make multiple withdrawals to reach that limit, as individual machines tend to have "per transaction" withdrawal amounts of 250-300 euro in Italy. mafiadon Posted September 27, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks so much for answering me. I was under the impression that I could only withdrawl 300 euros per day even if my limit is much higher. Now I won't worry. Linda
eandj Posted September 28, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Or you might have to go to different machines. Just double check your allowance from your bank. Most will only allow around 500 $. And remember you are dealing with euro in the machine.
iancal Posted September 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2009 Yes, absolutely. We did this often as we normally pay cash at hotels and get a discount. Works for us. Sometimes we would have to get enough cash to pay for a three or four night stay.
roninrome Posted September 30, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2009 mafiadon, be aware that your bank (not the Italian bank) will charge you a fee EACH time you do a withdrawal. I live here and still have a Bank Of America debit card... It's $5 each time I withdraw... but no charge from the Italian banks. For more info read this: ATM's in Italy

That is extremely high! You should switch banks, especially if you travel a lot. The ATM card I use in the US is different from the one I use in Europe. For the US I use one that has many branches, so I don't have to pay fees. But my community bank does not use ATM fees for international transactions. For long trips, they add up! May be worth looking into. ETA: Never mind - I didn't catch the part that you live there and just use the BoA one sometimes.
