Question regarding Casino at Sea

We are traveing on STAR in early Nov. Should my wife and I both get our own card regarding Casicno at Sea program? Or we shoud just get one card and used by both of us..... Which will render us quicker for OBC or free cruises? Do they allow you to combine both husband and wife's point? We actually saild before on NCL Sun in April and had registered with the program. I have no idea how much points we had. Do we have to talk to the casino manager to transfer the points at next sailing, or it is automatically transfered as soon as we use the card on our next sailing on STAR?

They should be able to link both your cards together. They do it for me and my husband all the time. That way we can combine our points.

OP.. they will link anyone together as long as they are on their onboard account is on the same credit card. As far as your left over points, when you board and go to the casino to get your new cards, ask them to contact the casino manager from your last cruise and have them transfer your points for you. I called CAS just today about this and was told they would now only do it onboard instead of in advance like they used to would do through CAS.

We also combined our points at the end of the cruise. And although we only had accumulated around 450 points, the gentleman that was checking us out on the last night in the casino said that he would be adding another 100 points to our account. So that was a nice surprise....

 

And of course we got the free drinks and free cigarettes throughout the cruise after only playing the first night. Again, this was our first cruise on NCL so we had no previous credits, etc. to earn any perks but it was nice getting over $500 off the onboard account! OH! They also offered us free dinner and wine at Cagneys for two after the second night or so.....in other words, they ARE watching the "play" time and numbers of the passengers in the casino.

Absolutely get two cards...one for each of you. They will combine your points for you at the end of your cruise. If you only have one card, only one of you can use it at a time and if both are playing, whoever doesn't have the card isn't receiving any points at all for their play. Two cards is a must.

My understanding is that you all have to be in the same stateroom or at the very least have all of your OBC's going to the same account, but that is just my understanding. I maybe VERY wrong about that.

To be candid, I have seen different postings about what it took to get the free drinks card. I want to say it doesn't take a huge amount of casino play, at least to the extent to get a comp'ed future cruise. I would think to get their attention you would have to play at least enough to be considered for a discounted cruise to also warrant the VIP card (which is what gives you the free drinks). This is stricktly the decision of the casino manager and/or casino host. It is not uncommon, at the very least, for the casino manager and/or casino host to walk by and offer someone a free drink, etc.

How much play at table games equal 1 point ? Does it go by amount bet or hours played or both?

Just a point of interest, when you board the ship and know you have points from a previous cruise, request those points to be transferred early in your cruise so that there is time for the ships to transfer them. I ran into difficulty when I asked on the last 3 days of a cruise and they did not get transferred in time..

For regular slots: Approx $138 run thru machine equals 1 point. Twice the cash per point for video poker. Table games at discretion of pit boss and is based on average bet x hours played - unknown formula.

Agreed. I played about 4 - 5 hours per day, 10 days. Avg bet of $50 - $100. I wound up with 182 points.

That is great info for folks to have. Thanks for posting it. I think that probably makes me about right on target with what I guessed. I have been told here on CC, not by CAS, that if you spend $1000.00 to $1200.00 on a 7 day cruise in the casino that you might probably qualify for the discount offered by CAS for future sailings so that would be about right to get 25 points, unless my math is way off. $1300.00 is about 25 points run through on a slot machine so I was close. 8-)

 

Althought I have been told also here on CC that this has changed and now it takes a lot more play than that to get the discount.

CAS comps are pretty much based on the same formula as land based casinos ie: your theo. Avg Bet x decisions per hour x hours played x house advantage of game or slot played. They weill then comp you a percentage(it varies, but usualyy around 3o%) of your theo.

Played last cruise average 4 hours per day at an avg bet of $500 and was comped suite on coming cruise. If you bet at least $25 per hand at any of the tables this will almost always get your free drinks while playing, and at the discrection of casino manager or host more comps. NCLhas the best casino program of any cruise line. HIghest limits by far,$1000 max at BJ where most lines are $200, some up to $500.

In July my friends booked with a discount through the CAS based on my play from the previous cruise and they had casino cards and drink cards waiting for them when we arrived at our cabins. :D

Your points are only carried-forward for 18 months....so there's no point bringing the old cards.

Exactly. "Points" are only used to determine your eligibility for OBC. OBC = $1 per point. After that, they revert to your theoretical (algorithm) to determine eligibility for current & future benefits.

Yes and no. They wipe out any points that you converted to OBC, but if you played at all after the conversion/cash out time, you will have some points on your card. We usually end the cruise with 30 or so odd points earned after the conversion, and have them brought forward on our next cruise.

You have to cash in by 9 pm on the last night to get the knock-off on your bill. Any play after that would accumulate points but not be credited to your bill.

 

Apparently you can get those points transferred within a certain time. (I've not done this yet - there are references to it on this and other threads)
