Rare PatriciaF Posted January 6, 2010 #51 Share Posted January 6, 2010 Wow--I have only been on one river cruise, Viking Seine, Paris to Normandy and found none of that true. If anything, I found the staff nicer and more knowledgable than the Ocean cruises i have taken (about 14 now). From talking to people aboard the Seine, they said that there was a lot of variability to service and food, and thought that Viking was one of the best and one of the most consistent for quality. I would be reluctant to take my husband as he is not a sit and relax person--the on board activities are limited compared to a large ocean liner. ddean52 Posted January 6, 2010 #52 Share Posted January 6, 2010 others may and will disagree, however, your listed issues all happened to us! we are seasoned travelers, and normally are no-fuss , however, our experience was a singularly miserable event should you decide to give river cruising a try , chose wisely!! Best Of Luck!! Dean
Rare PatriciaF Posted January 6, 2010 #53 Share Posted January 6, 2010 I guess for some the only highlight wasn't getting sea sick (which is one for me) I also sailed on the Mississippi Queen 3 times and also had no problems. Perhaps I have just been lucky.
