Norwegian alcohol sales

First post ever. I have been on several RCCL cruises including one on the sixth ever voyage of the Liberty of the Seas a bit over two years ago and we now have a booking for the Norwegian Pearl next month.

 

I am going with a party of 7 (4 adults), and I was inquiring about the alcohol sales policy in Norwegian. In RCCL, one can buy a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label at close to street price and it came out pretty much at the same price as per drink service of Black Label, and we were allowed to consume it while on the cruise.

 

What is Norwegian´s policy? What spirits are you allowed to buy by the bottle and allowed to consume while on the ship? Blue Label, Gray Goose, Royal Salute, something else? And if someone has recent price references I would be thankful.

 

We are not heavy drinkers, but it may be best to consider a bottle purchase and go for premium spirits for similar prices.

You can make arrangements in advance of your cruise to purchase a bar set up, but the price of the bottles will be more than what you would pay at a liquor store on land. On the other hand it should still be cheaper than buying the same amount of liquor on a drink by drink basis at the ship's bars.

NCL does not have any provision for purchasing liquor on board and taking it to your cabin. All liquor purchases onboard are held until departure (or the night before departure). Same goes for any liquor brought on board upon boarding....they will confiscate it and give it back to you at the end of the cruise.

This is only partly correct. Like NJHorseman said you can arrange to purchase a bottle of something ahead of time through the group event coordinator, I believe the e-mail address is groupevent[shipname]@ncl.com.

 

The prices are not super cheap, something like $63 for a bottle of the cheap stuff. I've seen lists in other threads. Search for something like 'bar setup'.

 

Also, you can bring wine aboard and pay a $15 corkage.

We just paid $83 to have a bottle of Absolut. Definitely not super cheap, but I figure if we have 2 drinks each a day, the bottle will pay for itself. It's easier to look up the list here on Cruise Critic and then email the group event person with what you want. I called them once she emailed me back with our request. I don't really care to email my credit card information at all.

You can not purchase liquor on board and consume it in your cabin like others have said. But, you can pre-order the bar setup by contacting the Group Coordinator: GroupEventPearl@ncl.com. I would do it now since your sailing is close. Here is the latest price list. And, add $3 setup charge per bottle:

This is no longer the case on RCCL. You are no longer permitted to use your purchase onboard. In fact, there are now instances where the liquor you purchase onboard is not delivered to your room till the morning of departure (after your luggage has been taken).

As an FYI, NCL will not provide a bar set up in Hawaii. NCLA Pride of America. This is due to Hawaiian liquor regulations. (Hawaii also restricts gambling which is why there is no casino aboard this ship either.)

 

It didn't sound like the OP was going to Hawaii, but a lot of other people read these threads.
