Booked our tour yesterday. We will be doing the monkeys at Victor's hour, Iguana farm and Butterfly garden. I also asked about Sand Castle. How long should we expect this tour to last? Should we plan to have lunch while we are away from the ship?

We did the "Sand Catle" tour and enjoyed it. Very small and we were in there about 15 minutes. We had a Bodden tour and had plenty of time to zip-line, have a beach walk (water was too rough to snorkel), visit Bodden's monkeys (so cute), Take a ride around the whole island and take pictures, and did the Sand Castle tour. Was the best time!! Also was on the Legend, and going again in September. There were 6 of us and we had Leo as our guide

What is this Sand Castle....? lol Where did you find alternative things to do in Roatan besides what's listed on the website? Everytime I do a search I'm unsuccessful.

You should plan to have lunch while you are there. Ask your driver for suggestions. We ate at he West Bay Resort which was fantastic

Hi everyone,

We booked Victor's tour for our June cruise and thanks to this board...we requested a couple different guides. Victor just confirmed Tex will be our Roatan escort. It sounds like he's a good guide...so I hope we have a great day.

Now to figure out what exactly we want to do when we're there.

You said that the reef is visible in the distance. Did you go snorkeling by the reef? If so was it an easy swim?

Yes, we did snorkel on the reef. It is a very easy swim from the beach. The only problem I had was that the water was a little cloudy in the morning when we were there and the reef was so shallow, I was nervous about the waves washing me into them. I decided to go out on the glass bottom boat instead and I think the offshore reef was much prettier and nicer.

However, when we came back after our trip, the water was perfectly clear and calm, and lots of people were snorkelling. So I think I was just there at a bad time. We were able to keep our beach chairs at Half Moon Bay while we were out on the boat snorkelling and the use was free. One of the owners came over and introduced himself and chatted for awhile. I had a great few hours there.

Had a nice cheeseburger on the beach from their restaurant too!

You'll have a great time! Your guide will make suggestions, but you can choose the best options for you.

p.s. -the monkees are great!

Tex is a great guide and you'll have a fantastic time! If you give Tex some general guidelines as to what you're interested in (beach time, shopping, photo ops, etc) he'll make sure that you enjoy the best that Roatan has to offer (at least that was our experience last April).

Wow, this is an awesome island, we had a blast and would love to spend a week there. We did the tour with Hanno thru Victor Bodden and had a great time. Victor's Monkeys were really fun, and the other animals at his place were very nice. We felt totally safe in Roatan!! Hanno was great and definately made our visit a very memorable one.

We are cruising on the Norwegian Jewel in late March, and I'm having trouble getting a tour booked with VB. I filled out their form and got a "we'll get back to you" form letter response (email) the next day, but nothing since. That was several days ago. I sent a follow-up but no response. Is this typical for VB? I can relax and wait, just curious... especially since we're less than 2 months out.

VB usually responds very, very quickly. I can tell you that sometimes e-mails just don't go through (for whatever reason) and that a loss of internet connectivity can happen at any time.

You may wish to resend.......

We just returned from our cruise with a stop on this beautiful island. We enjoyed having Tex as our guide and were able to see a lot of the island. Tex made sure to help us out and ensure that we enjoyed our day.

I got to meet Victor himself at the pier--I was suprised that he is not very old--but has done a great job of building a good business. He does have many people that drive for him and wants to make sure that if you do have a request that it is fulfilled. Before we left for the day he reviewed what we wanted to make sure the reservation was correct and made sure that we could add anything that we wanted.

We enjoyed seeing the monkeys and spending time on the beach and the cameo factory. We probably whined a bit much about the heat since it was about 85 degrees and very humid the day we were there:rolleyes: (especially since we came out of snow to go on the cruise!) but we did enjoy it. The cars have air conditioning and Tex made sure that we were comfortable--he even made last minute arrangements for us to spend sometime on the beach before they got too crowded and moved chairs under the shade so we weren't in the sun too much with our winter skin!

A great guide and great tour--can't recommend them highly enough!

Thanks to others for the previous reply/advice - I resent my email request for booking to VB and not only did he reply but he had a friend in Texas also send me the same email to be sure it got through.

We're all set I think, looking forward to it!

Any lunch recommendations for the day would be great!

We were there January 2010 on CELEBRITY EQUINOX and booked Victor Bodden:

You can visit my blog where you find some pictures and comments on our tour.

We had a good time - beside the rain - but this was out of Victor's responsibilty.

A good price-value-ratio. Unfortunately we could not see more as the time was very limited on Roatan.

Have a good time there like we had.

What to do on the tour? I hear you pick your own spots? We don't have any idea on what to do. We are cabe tubing and zipling in Belize so we don't want to that again...help

Watch the blog and the pictures and just answer yourself the question if you want to have the same or not.

Just emailed VB and can't believe how fast he responded.:) Definitely going to book with him and request a guide for our upcoming day in Roatan. Now we just have to figure out what to do as we don't want to snorkel or visit the beaches. We have that all year long so we would rather go sightseeing and enjoy a nice lunch after the Butterfly Gardens. Has anyone ever gone to see the Garafuna Dancers on one of his tours?

I have read on CC someone did get off the boat and was able to book VB at his booth, w/o an on-line registration. That was a review about 3-4 months ago.

Easy to find:

Just make a right turn in the village and see on the left side to find Victor Bodden's booth.

Thanks. We're probably just looking for sight-seeing and photo ops rather than zip-lining and such.
