Yellow Lab's Rule Posted December 11, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2009 We went on the AOS in November. It stoped in St. Croix. We were very surprised to find out that Christensen is about at 45 min ride from the port. We were on a snorking tour to Buck Island that left from Christensen. We didn't have time to walk around the town, but from what we saw of it driving both via the tour bus and via the boat we got on at the dock near Fort Christensen, it isn't worth the time it takes to get there to go shopping. There are just a few stores. It would take you 10 min. to walk the street and almost 2 hours to get there and back to the ship. Right off the port where the ship docks they have vendors with tents to shop at, it's all t-shirts and costume jewelry. There is nothing to do either in Christensen or near the port where the boat docks. I would stick with an excursion. Do your shopping at the other ports. Geckos Posted December 11, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2009 elysams, depending on what time your ATV tour ends at will determine if you have enough time to go walk around christiansted. As mentioned above it is about 30-45 minute drive to get there. if you do have time, i would suggest cane bay beach. it could be on your way back if you take north shore road. one thing to keep in mind is the north shore beaches are going to have more sea grass and surf. if time is not available for this, then staying on the west end is great. there are plenty of beaches with very calm water. the ATV tour ends at one of the best. Rainbow beach. but there are other options as well such as sand castle beach, or even going out to sandy point (if you are there on a weekend) hope this helps, Seth

The Islander Posted June 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 5, 2010 If you wanted a beach super close to Christiansted to just hang out on for a little bit you could take the little ferry ride over to Protestant Cay and hang out on the beach there. You can check out a video of Christiansted at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6_bXS_EqgY. Give you an idea of what there is to see and do. --Islander

Can you tell me something about the beach? How about the ferry ride over? Is it worth it to take a taxi from the ships port all the up there? Since you're going to be in Christiansted, I suggest going to the Buccaneer. They have three beaches that are as good as any in STX, and they have the amentities to make your time there pleasant (restrooms, restaurants, etc.)
The Islander Posted August 4, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2010 Protestant Cay is a little island just off the Christiansted boardwalk, the ferry ride takes like 1 minute. The beach is on the cay, it faces Christiansted so you get a nice view of the town and harbor which the cay basically sits in. Whether its worth heading to Christiansted, rather than staying around Frederiksted is up to you and what you want to do. If you were interested in the Christiansted National Historic site for example, then its worth it. If you were just going to go and not because you wanted to see something or shop etc. then perhaps look at more options and decide which you are most interested in. You can watch a video about Christiansted at: and here is one on Frederiksted: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wt4O6wzfoTU. And KyRcclfan suggested Buccaneer, you can watch a video about their beach called Mermaid beach at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuD7c5HtMCw. --Islander

Are tais readily available and at what price?
