TheRoff Posted December 28, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 28, 2009 I have liked this one. I believe the ship is the Sapphire Princess. We, on the Oosterdam are passing her off the Baja Coast. Larry

zackiedawg Posted December 30, 2009 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2009 Don't have as many shots OF ships at night, but I have a lot ON ships at night. Here's a shot of a ship - Celebration - in Cozumel, taken years ago with my Sony 717 balanced on a rail: Here are some night shots onboard ships: Nighttime on the Noordam in Aruba: Noordam's top deck, at sea and moving: Aft pool of Noordam: Main pool with cover closed on Noordam:

BIGDADDY2587 Posted December 30, 2009 #13 Share Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) are these types of shots possible on a regular digital camera? or do you need the professional bulky ones i have a casio that has a setting for natrual light i wonder if that would work Edited December 30, 2009 by BIGDADDY2587
fotocruiser Posted December 30, 2009 #14 Share Posted December 30, 2009 are these types of shots possible on a regular digital camera?or do you need the professional bulky ones i have a casio that has a setting for natrual light i wonder if that would work The shots are possible if a.) you can turn off the flash; b.) the camera can focus in low to no light; c.) you have, even if it is minimal, control over the f-stop (lens opening) and shutter speed; and d.) and most important, you brace the camera on something, such as a railing, bulkhead, floor, or tripod so that camera does not move at all, as your exposures will likely be long, possibly as much as a second or longer, depending on the camera. A tripod or Monopod is a great help or rest the camera on a steady surface. Decent hand-held shots can be made too. This one was from an Olympus 1030SW (point and shoot), hand held. Exposure at 1.6 seconds. that is a LONG time for hand held! Edited December 31, 2009 by cruisetobeaches spelling
