Alcohol at ports?

Recommended Posts

I've seen stories on here of people buying alcohol in...I THINK Barcelona, and not being stopped. In the Caribbean they'll take it from you and hold it until the last day. A woman ahead of me in one of the Caribbean ports put three big water bottles (in a bag) through x-ray and the guy made her take them out so he could examine them...ie, make sure they were sealed and not opened and filled with vodka.

When getting back onboard from any port..... RCCL is on the lookout and will keep and hold any alcohol... It will be delivered to your cabin on the last night along with any you have purchased while onboard....Just policy to protect their biggest revenue...

I have heard two different stories. Some friends have told me you can buy a bottle at your port and bring it on the boat with you, but I saw a post months ago saying that you can't bring any alcohol. Who is right and if you can is there a limit?

You can buy your booze in ports, but RCCL says they will take it. I was able to get all of my booze past the table, but it was the last day so i don't know if they were watching as hard as they should have been (i would have gotten in back in a couple of hours anyways.) You are limited by what customs will allow. Which i believe is 1L per person from a foreign port, and 5L per person from a US port (US Virgin Islands included).

You can buy more, but then you are supposed to claim it and pay duty tax on them when you get back to the states.
