brothbart Posted February 7, 2010 #1 Posted February 7, 2010 We recently got back from a cruise where I arranged a specialized tour with Dora De Zubiria's company. I did some research and decided to use her company because of her responses of us wanting to go to the Mercado the Bazurto. We had a wonderful tour guide, Dency, who went way beyond what we expected. We were met on time at the cruise port where we picked up another guide, Julietta, an expert of the market, before visiting the Mercado the Bazurto we stopped at a place (Ex-boxer Bobby Avila's restaurant) to order lunch so it would be ready when re returned from walking around the market. The market is not visited by tourists much, but it is a wonderful place. We tried numerous fruits and even tasted iguana eggs. After walking around the huge market we had a wonderful lunch. We got a tremendous amount of food for about $10 p/p. After lunch we went to the hill of La Popa from where, besides visiting the monastery and the chapel, we were able to admire a fantastic view of the city. Following that we headed towards the San Felipe de Barajas Fort, the most important fort built in the whole American continent. Next we walk around the walled city admiring houses and plazas such as Plaza de Santa Teresa, Plaza de Bolivar, Plaza de la Aduana, Plaza de los Coches, full of history and legends. After the tour ended we mentioned to Dency that we wanted to get some Cerviche and she took us to a wonderful place. You can tell that Dency loves her city. She went way beyond what we expected. Dora even called to see how everything was going. Dora runs a first class operation and we couldn't have asked for anything more. I highly recommend her company.
