Alter Do Chao, Brazil Question?

I will be sailing on the Veendam, in April, up the Amazon and stopping at Alter Do Chao for most of a day. I have booked a HAL shore excursion called "Eco Walk: Santa Lucia Aboretum", and would like feedback from anyone who has done this excursion. I am open to other suggestions for this port that might provide a better opportunity to understand this area of the Amazon.
