CCJack Posted March 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2010 I have one more question about the connecting cabins, we have two connecting cabins booked. If we use the vestibule door, the individual doors still work (to allow privacy from the other room - although they are in our group.)... Do they still lock? Also could we choose to open up the balcony but do not use the vestibule connection? Can the balcony be opened up ourselves or does it have to be done by the steward...thanks.... CruisinNJ Posted March 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2010 The inside doors still work and lock. When they first close the hallway door, they open the inside doors, and they are held in place by a magnet, but with a little tug, they close and lock. When you open them again, the magnet still works. The design works well as you can walk between rooms without going out in public, but still have the privacy of 2 rooms. Also - no door in the middle of the wall like older style connectors. It is your option whether or not to open the balcony connector, but they do not close over like the front doors - so you are either all open or all closed. Hope this helps. FritzG Posted March 19, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2010 We have a connecting cabin on the Eclipse. Does the doorway configuration make the cabin smaller? Can we lock the balcony divider so whomever is next door can't open it? I hope we didn't make a mistake choosing a connecting room--it was a hump room so we chose it by location. The rooms are normal size. You don't really know you have connecting rooms when the vestibule door is open. It's not like a huge area. And it will be opened and remain open the entire trip. We had one in Feb. We were on the hump and in a great location. You'll like it no less than a regular room! There ARE pics on this site of the connecting rooms entrances. Here they are. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=966665&highlight=connecting+rooms+solstice No, your neighbors can't get onto your balcony.;) It would have to be opened by staff. Don't worry.
Fblack Posted March 19, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 19, 2010 Here's a good photo I took on the Equinox. You can close just the outer doors and walk between cabins. Or close the inner doors for individual cabin privacy.

With the connecting cabins, the only time you use the vestibule doors that extend out into the hallway would be when you have a family using the two connecting cabins. That way you have privacy of opening up the two cabin doors for access back and forth with the vestibule doors closed to the common passageway. You can still lock the two inside doors if you so desire, or just leave them open. If you booked a connecting cabin rooms, and you are two couples (friends), you do not use the vestibule doors -- they are designed for families and the like. Just use the cabins as regular cabins (that's how they were designed), and have your stateroom attendant open up the balcony partition so you can walk back & forth. TravelerThom Posted March 19, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2010 With the connecting cabins, the only time you use the vestibule doors that extend out into the hallway would be when you have a family using the two connecting cabins.....The vestibule doors do not extend out into the hallway. They are either parallel to the hallway making the vestibule private, or they fold into the vestibule. See the picture posted by Fblack. They fold out from the vestibule to the hallway to make the vestibule private. From there, you enter into the the vestibule. The two cabin doors can be either open or closed, depending upon your wishes.
