Did anyone ever forget anything important?

Recommended Posts

The camera battery charger. Luckily both camera batteries were charged and we could use the video camera to take a few stills.

I had the camera, extra battery, extra memory all packed. When my now Ex charged the extra battery he only put it and not the charger back in the case.

I almost forgot the swimsuits and shorts one cruise over Christmas - like an earlier poster - I had started to gather out of season clothes and almost forgot to pack everything I had collected. Luckily the half empty bag gave my mistake away

All my make-up:eek:. I had to buy all new stuff on the ship. When packing to go home I opened the mirror by the vanity to make sure I packed everything. Low and behold, I had my make-up and totally never remembered putting it there. It was a costly mistake:mad:.

The main thing I am worried about forgetting is the most important thing IMO.

My passport.

It is number one on my list............I figure I can either buy or do without everything else .

Being that I live 9 hours away from Port Canaveral in N. Ga and will be driving down, my passport isnt something I would want to forget and think "oh no!" once I hit about the FL line.

I will have it in my hands as I go out the door and will protect it the whole time Im gone :D

Wow, not only costly, but the selection is really limited.... I would of freaked out!!

I have one drawer in the bathroom that I keep just travel stuff......ie curling iron, make up bag, toiletries, hair grooming products.....I update after each cruise.

I forgot my son Kevin......oh wait that wasn't me, that was in Home Alone:D.

One time I remembered my movie camera but forgot the charger, I was already to buy a new charger while in port but the salesman was a pretty decent guy and charged my battery for a buck. My brother wasn't as lucky, he forgot to pack underwear:eek:. But the biggest scare to me wasn't what I forgot to take with me to the cruise but what I forgot to take home from the cruise,(well almost forgot), I won $5000 in the casino and it wasn't til I was on line to do my last ding to get off the ship that I remembered I left all that cash in the safe in the cabin:eek::eek:. I never ran so fast in my life. I can't even imagine what I would have done if I went home without it.

Once, a long time ago, DH forgot his meds and we spent the entire day in St Thomas getting them replaced with the help of the ships' doctor. Sigh...

On another cruise, I couldn't find my sneakers and ended up buying a pricey pair in Nice. On the last day when I was packing, I found my shoes where I had stuffed them in a pocket in one of the suitcases.

My wife left her makeup bag in the car. Panic set in when she realized it, and even more so when she saw the price of a tiny bottle of makeup on board. She refused to pay that much, but strongly considered it. It turned out okay. She had lipstick in her purse and got a rosy look after the first day in the sun!

We own a hotel, and you won't believe what people leave when they check out to go home. Probably so relaxed from the stay.... We find whole drawers or shelves with stuff that has been simply forgotten. Somebody once forgot his laptop in the bathroom .

The more I follow this thread the more I am reminded of how often I have forgotten things..... there was all my underwear one vacation.... but then there was the time DD1 got married. We'd booked a hotel for the venue and we were staying there from Friday to Sunday with the wedding on Saturday. I realised after we'd unpacked everything that I'd left my own wedding outfit at home!! Fortunately home was an hour and a half away by car so that meant the mother of the bride had to absent herself from the festivities to go fetch. Tut.

I hate to admit this, but I neglected to bring my birth certificate on my second cruise. This was in 1995 and I attempted to board with my driver license, Social Security card, and voter's registration. .

Not a cruise, but back in '94 or '95 I flew to the Bahamas for a few days with a girlfriend from work. No passports required, but as we stood in line to board the plane I realized I forgot my birth certificate. Luckily I had a vague recollection or reading that your voter reg. card was proof of citizenship (back then), and I had mine in my wallet. They took it with no problem.

Correcting my own post....wasn't '94 or '95, it was actuall further back....either '90 or '91. Certainly couldn't use a voter reg card now.

I have found packing at the last minute is my best bet to make sure I have everything. When I drag out the packing process I always forget something. .

That's how I forgot my shoes! I had everything laid out 4 or 5 days ahead, then decided to wear a pair of the shoes I'd set aside to work one day. Then wore the other pair to work the next day. Promptly forgot to put either pair back in the cruise pile. I had a list, but I'd checked the shoes off when I set them aside, so on departure day I looked at my list, all was checked off and away I went. Without my shoes!

Now I don't check things off the list until the night before when they go from the staging area to the actual suitcase! That way, if I've removed something from the staging area, I'm reminded to go find it again.

If you are worried about important things, pull out one of your carry on bags and start to put things in now that you won't need before then (camera, passport, swimsuit, etc.). I find that I think about things as I move around the house and if I put them in the bag when I see them, it saves me forgetting later. ,

I have a drawer in a nightstand that is designated for the little trinket-y travel stuff that I am prone to forget....seapass lanyard, croakies, waterproff camera with pictures remaining on it, large post-its for room steward, splitter for ipod, etc.

I almost forgot the swimsuits and shorts one cruise over Christmas -

My BF once forgot to pack a bathing suit for a Caribbean cruise. Got stuck buying an expensive on onboard.

Another time he forgot to pack jeans for a ski resort vacation. Got stuck buying an expensive pair when he got there.

Another cruise he forgot to pack underwear.

Another trip during summer that was going to include beach time, he forgot flip flops.

Guess who packs for him now?! :D

It wasn't so much what I forgot, but what I forgot to do....

A few days into our cruise the wife and I went to dinner (MDR) and then to a show. It was a semi-casual night so I was wearing slacks. As we headed back to our room I happen to catch my reflection in some glass. Notice something white clinging to my calf area.....a nice dryer sheet. I guess it had been there the whole evening. The wife still insists "she never noticed it" while grinning the whole time. Point being....never forget to do a once-over in the mirror prior to leaving the room.

This thread is making me nervous as I am starting to pack!

I have checked and re-checked the lists twice and still find that I missed one or two things!!!

Don't panic. As several have said, all that's really essential is your passport (or whatever ID you plan to use), and a credit card. Because after all, "for everything else, there's Mastercard."

It's less inconvenient if you remember a bathing suit and something for formal night. Other than that you can usually make do with your travel clothes and what's available in the the sundries shop and logo gift shop on board until you get to a port that has real stores.

That reminds me... wasn't a cruise.... land vacation.... went to a civil wedding service.... arrived at the hotel and unpacked....

I have two pairs of shoes that are very similar.... only difference is the heel....

I had packed one from each pair.... fortunately a left shoe and a right shoe.... pretty much hobbled the whole afternoon.... Fortunately I was wearing a trouser suit so no one noticed..... as long as I stood still....

I did the same thing on our cruise over New Years! The shoes had the same shape and heel, but one was dressy and the other was more casual (brought one of each), since I was wearing a dress for formal night I had to resort to wearing a pair of casual black shoes that at least "matched"! My DDs never let me live it down the whole night. DH teased me the whole night too, however karma got him two months later on another cruise! He forgot his dress shirt and tie, so he only had a suit to wear for formal night and didn't realize what he had done until 1/2 hour before dinner (and guess what, after the tux rental is closed for the night, there is no where to get dress shirts on board);)

Would love if someone would post the EXCEL packing list. We start a week or two before - placing the odds and ends that we need to take on the cruise before I pack the clothes, it is amazing as we get older the odds and ends stuff is bigger than the clothes.

I use a white noise sound machine and cannot sleep without it. I wear headphones with it and don't hear a thing when sleeping. It works especially well to drown out my husband's snoring.

My Sharper Image noise machine might be on it's last leg. What brand do you use?

The one I have is from Brookstone. They apparently don't make the model I have any longer, but it looks like their baby sleep machine. I am not sure if this one has a headphone jack though, which is a necessity for me. :)

Hammacher Schlemmer. I bought my first one in 1992 an still use it every single night! When we had kids, I decided to buy them another brand so it would make rain/stream noises, etc. Within 3 years I had gone through at least 3 other sound machines. So, now both my kids also have a Hammacher Schlemmer one too. And, one of their sound machines started rattling when it was about 2 years old and really bothered him so I went online to order a new one and didn't know which version we had since they sell 2 that look exactly the same. I called Customer Support and they informed me that there is a lifetime guarantee on them and to mail it back in a box and they'd send me a replacement free. I had the new one in less than a week.

I may forget to pack underwear but I'd never forget to pack my sound machine...LOL.

I know what you mean...I'll never forget mine again, that's for sure. Thanks for the tip on the HS brand. If my Brookstone one ever goes kaput (it's about 8 years old now), I'll check it out. :)

I do worry about forgeting things, contrary to popular opinion, not everything is easily replaced. I don't imagine a white noise machine would be easy to find in most ports. And for those of us who wear plus sized clothing, it would be a nightmare to replace many items. They mostly only sell what I call "doll clothes" on the ship and in many ports. ;)
