ProfessorandtheGeek Posted April 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2010 I think it is highly unfair of these boards to not allow mentioning of TA names and reputations. You would think that they would allow this. How are those of us who have never used an online TA (until now) to find a reputable one with NO input from others. This policy needs to be changed if you ask me.
greeneg Posted April 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2010 It would be considered advertising or solicitation and hence inappropriate. These are discussion boards ( in theory at least).
TheMurr Posted April 29, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2010 It's because this board is owned by a TA. You can post most other links (airlines, hotels, car rentals, etc. - all soliciting) but no TA's. Try advertising Honda on Toyota's website. Administrators Rare LauraS Posted April 29, 2010 Administrators #4 Share Posted April 29, 2010 You are certainly allowed to discuss the pros and cons of purchasing a cruise through different venues, such as a brick and mortar TA, a big online travel website, online cruise-only agency as well as purchasing directly from the cruise line directly of course. What we don't allow is the third-party recommendation of specific travel agents/agencies. The boards would quickly become full of ads directed toward the many folks who participate here with dollars in hand, ready to purchase their next cruise. We don't anticipate changing the guidelines any time in the near future. Laura

These guidelines have been in place since inception -- about 15 years or so. We were only purchased by TripAdvisor (a subsidiary of Expedia.com, in May 2007).
