mother's day gift excursion

Hello all, I always find so much great information from these boards. We are going on a family vacation in October aboard the Inspiration. My sisters and I want to buy our mother an excursion to visit the Mayan ruins while we are in Cozumel. She is a history buff and enjoys learning about different cultures. I'm looking for advise from those who have done it before. We have never been to Mexico, so I have no knowledge. She doesn't enjoy the beaches or thrill seeking. So simply seeing the ruins is what we are looking for. Any suggestions on specific excursions?

Thanks for your reply. I guess I'm just wondering if I should book through carnival or if anyone found another choice that is more interesting through a private source. The carnival option is actually cheaper than some of the ones I looked up. So it seems like a no brainer, but I'm wondering if it is as nice or informative as others. Just wondering what other people's experience has been. Since it is for mothers day, I want it to be nice.

All the ruins worth seeing are on the mainland, which is a 45 minute ferry ride from Cozumel. I would book the Tulum ruins through Carnival since travel time and distance is so long/far. We were there in October. The are gorgeous and sit on the sea so if you get hot take a dip in the ocean!
