OhioJeff Posted May 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2010 Come on, how hard is it to copy and paste the actual articles????? </H1> Its against board policy to post actual articles. We can only post links http://boards.cruisecritic.com/faq.php?faq=guidelines#faq_copyright Copyright Infringement The posting of large blocks of text obtained from the Internet, online newspapers, web sites, magazines, etc., defeats the purpose of our Cruise Boards. All of this information is available to everyone online, and doesn't add to the idea of sharing firsthand experiences and cruise advice. Also, the majority of information out there is protected by an author's individual copyright. Therefore, we will remove such information from the message boards. However, linking via url to the information is allowed. The one exception to this would be Cruise Line press releases. You may post these on the boards, if you clearly indicate the source. noblepa Posted May 13, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2010 I'd much rather people DIDN'T paste entire articles here. Too many people don't know how (or bother) to snip the articles when they post a reply. The result is that a very long article may be effectively posted ten times or more, by people responding to it with a single line. How hard is it to click on a link, if you wish to read the article? Princesss Posted May 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2010 "While the US Coast Guard is advising ships to avoid the area, Carnival has been able to maintain normal operations" Why would the Coast Guard advise such a thing and why would Carnival ignore the advise of the Coast Guard ? OhioJeff Posted May 13, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2010 "While the US Coast Guard is advising ships to avoid the area, Carnival has been able to maintain normal operations" Why would the Coast Guard advise such a thing So ships dont sail through the oil and why would Carnival ignore the advise of the Coast Guard ? They arent ignoring the advice, they have been able to avoid the oil and still make it to all ports and destinations.
James in SA Posted May 13, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2010 New Orleans is an important shipping port. Lots of ships are going to have to go through that oil if at some point they can no longer go around it. Right now they can still go AROUND it, so they are saying don't go THROUGH it. Princesss Posted May 13, 2010 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2010 Oh... well apparently they couldnt even detect an island or buoy (??) last month that should have been picked up on radar, so how would forthcoming oil be detected, especially at night when there is no visibility ? optiron Posted May 13, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 13, 2010 I would think the USCG is monitoring any thing on the surface and publishing warnings with position reports. They do have some knowledge of currents and such.

Facts mean very little these days within the news industry.

gonzo1124 Posted May 13, 2010 #22 Share Posted May 13, 2010 I guess they figured out that a little oil attached to the ship's hull can make it more slippery, thereby easier to move through water. This can save some fuel... :p
