Car Rentals

I see a lot of talk about tours and cab rentals, but can you rent a car for the day and travel around by yourself? If so, can you give me the name of some?

My wife and I will be there in March. I did a Google search of Roatan and car rental and came up with a few companies. I'm still wondering if it is worth it. I've heard that you can hire someone for the day to take you around for about the same price... that way you don't have to count the coctails. Anyone have any insight?
