havcamwiltravel Posted November 1, 2012 #102 Share Posted November 1, 2012 (edited) Is it better option to take a dinner in the Oberoi Mena house restaurant(with pyramid view) and which one, or just to go to the pyramids and watch there the show? Hi Cruiseby, when I returned from Egypt, I posted my review of the Mena House here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1486840 We chose to dine at the Mena House over the light show or Nile cruise. msk575 Posted January 12, 2013 #104 Share Posted January 12, 2013 Miriam Can you tell us what was included in your tour? We took a one day excursion with Ramses. I was concerned about getting back on time, about the van breaking down, about missing the ship, etc. All the things the Shore Ex people on the ship stress so you will pay them $250 instead of $75 each with Ramses. Well, there was no reason to worry. We got back before for 'The Boat People', as one of my friends called them, saw more things and had more fun. The group was 11 people in a nice van with a knowledgeable guide and excellent driver. The driver was amazing. We used Ramses because others on CC had recommended them for both the one day and the overnight. You would do well to work with them. Communication was clear and fast. When I had concerns about various issues, they were addressed. I highly recommended Ramses. Miriam
Pushka Posted January 20, 2013 #105 Share Posted January 20, 2013 We have just booked Ramses tour for an overnight excursion, Cairo - Alexandria. Our roll call is a little quiet, so it will probably just be my husband and I but we are very much looking forward to this excursion. All our emails have been answered very promptly. Pushka Posted January 20, 2013 #107 Share Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) What do people do with their camera Equipment as it is not allowed inside the museum. I'm assuming that Ramses people will look after it. They will have our small overnight bag anyway. I'm skipping the laser show too and planning on the Mogul room for a great Indian feast. So, not just Dubai for you either hey? :) Edited January 20, 2013 by Pushka
coldell Posted January 22, 2013 #108 Share Posted January 22, 2013 What do people do with their camera Equipment as it is not allowed inside the museum. Our guide took the cameras to a secure dropoff area at the museum. No trouble at all collecting same on leaving. They were quite strict with people inside caught using phones to take pictures. They were escorted outside quickly.
phillip2468 Posted January 24, 2013 #109 Share Posted January 24, 2013 Cruising on Pacific Princess in Oct. Never book ship excursions, too expensive. Usually book when we get off ship. However with Ramses you do't pay until after each excursion. Booked two excursions thro' Ramses. Outstanding service from Eslam. You can tailor your excursion to your needs. Just tell them what/when/how and they will organise it. Also size of vehicle. Have a great cruise.

So, not just Dubai for you either hey? :) Hi, We are going to East Africa in April and then on to Cairo and a 3 night Nile cruise (after 4 ships itineraries canceled Egypt - we knew in advance). We will have 4 nights in Cairo, 2 before and 2 after the cruise, but only 2.5 days there. For our vacation later this year we are scheduled to cruise from Dubai. The Mogul room sounds great but my DH does not like Indian food, so not sure how I can get some as I would love to eat there. They were quite strict with people inside caught using phones to take pictures. They were escorted outside quickly. That makes me nervous as we will be coming off a plane from Luxor and going straight to the museum. Besides my camera equipment, I will have all of my memory cards plus all of the ones from Africa where we will be before Egypt, and DH's video equipment and iPad. The weight limit in Africa is so small that we are not bringing a computer so will not have a way to back up the photos. Were people allowed to keep their phones with them? Most museums allow you to carry your cameras, but obviously cannot use them. Maybe I should rethink going to the museum the next day (our last day in Cairo) when it opens so at least I can leave the memory cards at the hotel/Mena House. uniqueseraph Posted January 28, 2013 #112 Share Posted January 28, 2013 Quick question for you guys...I've been getting quotes for excursions, almost double what the cruise ship is charging for the same excursion. Has this happened to anyone? I asked to join a small group but they said there were none on anything from my cruise leaving this week which seems weird. Any thoughts?? Pushka Posted January 28, 2013 #113 Share Posted January 28, 2013 The savings are made when you can get a group together, otherwise they are too expensive. Ramses did take a booking for two that was much cheaper than the Cruise ship offering though.

We have independant tours planned with them and they are very reasonable for two people (much less than A&K), but we are flying into Cairo, so not off a ship where we can get a group together for this adventure. jesssophie Posted August 20, 2014 #115 Share Posted August 20, 2014 We are on a cruise this winter and will stop off in Cairo - what made you choose to eat at a hotel rather than cruise the Nile? I was thinking the Nile cruise would be something we would do in the stopover.
