Solo1959 Posted May 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 22, 2010 Years ago, back in the '60's, when we would cruise to Bermuda and spend several days docked in Hamilton, the swimming pools on the ship turned quite foul by the time we left. It was explained to us that the ship was not permitted to change the water while we were in port. Not long after we left for home, the pools would be emptied, cleaned, and re-filled. Anyone who was on the recent Veendam cruises to Bermuda, what were your observations of the on board swimming pools in port? We'll be sailing mid-June. It might be refreshing to just spend an afternoon on the ship enjoying the swimming pools and drinks. Thank you
mamaofami Posted May 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 23, 2010 There is only one pool on the Veendam now. It's an indoor pool with a retractable roof.
Solo1959 Posted May 23, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted May 23, 2010 There is only one pool on the Veendam now. It's an indoor pool with a retractable roof. Were you able to swim in it after a couple of days docked in Bermuda? Or did the water get dirty? P.S. I've never been on the Veendam, but the deck plans seem to show another pool on the Sky Deck 13 by The Oasis. Is that just like a hot tub or something? Cruising since 3 Posted May 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 23, 2010 We were just on the Veendam, and the pool was fine to swim on the entire time. Very clean, and the water actually warmed up a little by the last day docked. It was a real adventure to swim in the pool on the Saturday return to NYC - the water was sloshing around, with waves like the ocean!
lvz2cruz Posted October 19, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2010 Is the pool always enclosed or do they open the roof in warm weather?
maxout Posted October 19, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2010 Is the pool always enclosed or do they open the roof in warm weather? No, it is open or closed with respect to the current weather. :)
RuthC Posted October 19, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2010 Is the pool always enclosed or do they open the roof in warm weather? It wasn't open enough on the last Bermuda cruise this year. It became brutally hot and humid in there. True, it was also hot and humid outside, but there was no air circulation around the pool, which opening the cover might have allowed. SeaRamblers Posted October 19, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2010 Is the pool always enclosed or do they open the roof in warm weather? On our cruise the pool & jacuzzis were clean and the roof open (We had great weather). Hardly anyone used them while we were docked in Hamilton... Very nice after tramping over the island to come back to though.:D
