oshawa Posted May 28, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2010 Any cruisers on this voyage flying from Toronto to Rome with Air Canada? Just wondering if the return flight from FCO to Toronto at 11:20 A.M is too early to catch this departure. My TA said it would be no problem. Your opinions would be welcomed. We are currently booked on the 1:40 departure but would change since this would be a deviation into Montreal then on to Toronto. Would much rather have the direct flight. We would hire a private driver.

oshawa Posted May 28, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted May 28, 2010 Sorry - should have stated that the ship docks at 7:00 A.M.
NHBob Posted May 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2010 Regardless of what your TA says (has he/she ever been to Italy?) your chances of making an 11:20 flight out of FCO are slim. You should plan on being at airport at least 2 hours before flight time, i.e. 9:20. With a docking time of 7:00 you'll be lucky to be off the ship by 9 o'clock, and it's at least an hour's drive from Civitavecchia to FCO under the best of conditions. What does your cruise line say? Normally they provide advice to independent travelers not to book a flight before a specified time. When faced with similar situation on a couple of past trips I've found the least stressful solution to be to spend a night in either Ostia or Fiumicino, both a short distance from the airport. Personally I prefer the latter. as it still retains much of its fishing village character, and there are several good seafood restaurants.
