How bad is the smoke in the piano bars?

The piano bar is always one of my favorite places, but I wish that they would keep it smoke free. How bad is it these days?

It's been pretty bad on my last few cruises (Feb 2010, Sept 2009, Nov 2008), but I love the piano bar, so I just deal with it. I wish it could be non smoking in there, but I know that's not realistic.

We popped into the piano on bar a couple times on Destiny last month, and it was terrible. I can handle the smell of smoke in a bar like this, its walking out and feeling/smelling like an ashtray that I hate...

Please, please, please, Carnival -- let the majority of your customers enjoy the piano bar

We did a quckie on the Elation last year -- even the Name that Tune game during the day was unbearable in the piano bar. We live in CA and the only time we're subjected to smoke is on cruises - Carnival and Holland are the worst.

I smoke and I can't stand it

I am also a smoker and other peoples smoke bothers me. I only smoke outside and in designated areas except for the Casino and I only smoke if no one is beside me or if they are a smoker. I totally agree that except for the Casino and the cigar bar there should be no smoking. The areas are so confined and small and I can truly appreciate how it would bother non smokers and those with asthma or other issues. I personally vote to make them non-smoking.

It has been so bad on all our Carnival cruises that we have never been able to go in. Always so smokey that even walking by it is bad. Same on our most recent Dream cruise this past April. It had a fairly decent crowd and even though I don't think you could smoke directly next to the piano, it was still way to smokey for us to go in.

We happen to love piano bars, but have never been able to step inside one on a Carnival ship due to the smoke.

I am not a smoker, and have often in past been bothered by others' smoke. Last week, however, on the Dream, things were not bad at all. One guy kept trying to smoke AT the bar, but he got the hint eventually.

PB was packed, and yes, sadly it was Barry's last week on the Dream, but he was hilarious.. DH and I were there almost every night until at least 1 AM. Now Barry is getting to cajole more new faces in a week, on the Sensation, doing the 3 & 4 night cruises.

It has been very bad on all my cruises with Carnival. I can not even stand in the door way for very long without having to feel like I am about to throw up.

Exactly, Traveler......we find it hard to even walk by the piano lounge....we have never been on one Carnival cruise where we could be anywhere in the vacinity of the piano lounge...and we would love to be able to enjoy it....the lounge stinks even when empty and not being used!

When on Liberty, I would pass by the empty pb every early morning on the way to the gym. As soon as I walked down the stairs (our cabin was aft on deck 7) the smell of the smoke - even at 6 a.m. when the place had been deserted for hours- would smack me full in the face. I would actually reel back from the smell. Having grown up in a house full of smokers, I can tolerate smoke pretty well. But CCL still needs to come up with a ventilation solution for the pb.

I too love the piano bar, but can rarely stand to sit there more than a few minutes. Aboard one of the ships (not sure if it was Miracle or Liberty) the piano man wouldn't let them smoke while he was performing, and we had a GREAT time with him. Sure didn't seem to cut down on the crowd at all!

  • 1 month later...

Someone said the Piano Bar is there favorite place but they don't like smokers being there. Why is it that non smokers think they should have all the rights but smokers get put in the back of the bus? People do amaze me sometimes that they are better than someone else just because they don't smoke. Who do you want to ban next? Maybe fat people because they take up to much room at the bar. Maybe drinkers because they get loud and drink to much. Give me a break.

The Piano Bar on Carnival ships seems to be a magnet for smokers . I just conceed that room to those that smoke and walk away .

Oops! Yes I did enjoy the Piano Bar on 1 Carnival ship , the Paradise when it was a 100% smoke free ship.:o

I don't rip on smokers, and I feel bad that there are fewer places for them to smoke - but their smoke damages MY lungs too!!! :( Drunks don't hurt my body, and neither do overweight people. If you want to do comparisons like that - pick apples to apples.

My personal opinion - they should rotate the smoking bars around daily, so some days I can sit in the piano bar without coughing, yet smokers can enjoy their time too.

I've been passed piano bars at 5PM where there so much smoke at the tables away from the bar itself you'd thought you were in a smog machine. And I've been pased the same bars at 10 PM and you couldn't smell a single cigarette. But usually there's just enough smoke lingering in the air that unless the piano player is extremely good, I usually don't hang out there.

I think it really is a non issue, smokers need to stand up for their rights. Cigars need to be allowed in all bars and casino. Thats my opinion and I am sticking to it.

I actually just read that the Dream piano bar went smoke free in the last month or so.

If you are going on the Dream in the next couple of months, you are lucky because Jason is great!

Well if that's true (the bar itself carried No Smoking placards on it in May) and the entire bar is non-smoking, then that means no smoking all the way down to the Wasabi and Fun Hub.

May have something to do with health reasons. Just a wild guess on my part.

On sister line Princess, smoking may only be allowed in one bar (Wheelhouse) and casino has non-smoking nights as well.

Sorry, an addiction is not a "right"...it is a privilege and a responsibility...just like drinking.

I think electronic cigarettes are the wave of the future for indoor smoking...that way smokers could smoke where ever they want to without interferring with the "rights" (yes, being able to breathe is a right) of those around them.

My friends use the E Cigs on every cruise and love them.....

I am guessing that on the Dream it is because the piano bar is such an "open" concept.

With children so close (just walking by) .... that kind of exposure is taboo.

Where as places like the Disco is closed off and over 21.....

(if Camp Carnival is using the Disco during the day for an event...it is nonsmoking)
