dan40 Posted June 24, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2010 I believe today's rules are that NOTHING is to go overboard into the ocean. A percentage of kites certainly would end up in the drink. Then they'd be all oily and unfit to give back to your kid.

cb at sea Posted June 25, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 25, 2010 Don't bring a kite...unless you're going to fly it on a beach...not on the ship.
matj2000 Posted June 25, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 25, 2010 I saw someone flying a kite on the Legend 5 years ago. But I believe they made him stop after a crew member saw him...
Boozebabe Posted June 25, 2010 #10 Share Posted June 25, 2010 I sell Chinese Fire Lanterns at my store and thought they would be really cool to let off on a ship. Guess I better leave them at home. At sea you would be able to watch them for a really long time. Every component in them is bio-degradable.
Ship Addict Posted June 25, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 25, 2010 I did it back in 2001. A security guy came to the back of the ship to see what I was doing, but he never said anything to me. Now I think, wouldn't swear to it and I'm not gonna go look it up, but now it is a no-no item.
johnjen Posted June 25, 2010 #12 Share Posted June 25, 2010 Well, we never flew kites from navy ships but we used to drag a net from the back as we sailed. Caught a nice dolphin one evening. Man! That gave the crew a nice dinner the following day though!:D
chasetf Posted June 25, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 25, 2010 Has anyone ever tried flying kites off the upper deck of a ship? Do they object for some reason? n? We did it off a Mississippi River paddlewheeler Mississippi Queen. The boat provided the kites. :D
DreadPirateRobert Posted June 25, 2010 #14 Share Posted June 25, 2010 I'm pretty sure the security drones are programmed to say "No" to anything out of the ordinary,... except chair hogs and unruly kids in the pools, hot tubs or the elevators.:D

JerseyshoreBruce Posted June 25, 2010 #17 Share Posted June 25, 2010 Even if you were allowed to do this i am sure the wind would rip the kite to shreds. Don't forget besides the normal wind your moving along at a good speed! Would never work unless you were parked!

Chair Hogs, and unruly kids and children in the adult pools/hot tubs and elevators are THE ORDINARY, so they say nothing! Back to the subject at hand. We never flew kites from military ships, but some used to tie their laundry to ropes, and drag them through the wake to clean them. Came out really STARCHED! "SKY"
