We took a ride up to Mt Hood and Timberline Lodge yesterday. Maybe we weren't at the top of the world, but we were at the top of Oregon!

Need some trees?

People were still skiing on the 1st of Sept. They close after this weekend until they get some new snow, usually they open again in Nov.

Responded to my Launch Alert email this weekend and drove out to an open field for a 7:22 PM launch of a Falcon 9. Launches are pretty regular but early evening ones where the exhaust trail is lit by the sun below the horizon are often spectacular. It's funny and sad that once or twice a year when they happen, the 911 lines light up asking about aliens, nuclear war and other end of the world stuff.

First spark from 150-ish miles away.

High enough to catch the sun

The spark on the right of the plume is the first stage burning for return to base

Not much air left up there

Adios!

Thanks to SpaceX and the payload manufacturers for spending millions of dollars to entertain me for 15 minutes or so!
