nosnobunny Posted June 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2004 We had two formal nights in March 2002 and I believe two smart casual (translated to mean semi-formal). Guest NBestafka Posted June 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2004 We were on Brilliance April 19th Ultimate Caribbean and there were 2 formal nights. Enjoy!!!! This is a great cruise!!!!!! Nancy
Pumbaamd Posted June 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2004 Has anyone stayed in the area of 9640 on the Brilliance? We have that balcony booked for January. Curious about convenience or in-convenience of location, noise, motion, any comments would be appreciated.
Guest NBestafka Posted June 8, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2004 We were in 9650.... a few doors down from where you will be. It was quiet. Not much motion but I did feel more rocking than I did midship. It was a long walk (well, not so much long but boring) to the elevators. Deck 9 was very nice (convenient)... a few decks up to the pools, a few decks down to the casino etc. The ship is beautiful. Enjoy!!!!! thebigrooster Posted June 8, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 8, 2004 We are just off an 11 nighter on the Grandeur and had 3 formal, 2 smart casual nights. Not sure if they're consistent throughout the fleet or not.

cei3 Posted June 9, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 9, 2004 Are the deck 9 balconies high enough above the lifeboats so there are no obstructions? Which deck is obstructed by them?
Guest NBestafka Posted June 10, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 10, 2004 cei3... deck 9 is far enough above them. The lifeboats obstruct your view straight down if you are on deck 7. You can look straight out over the ocean but not directly down!!! Our view on deck 9 was fine. I didn't eat at Portofino's or Chops so I can't offer an opinion on either. I will say that if you can get a look at the diningroom menu for the cruise, it would be easier to pick what night you may want to try the specialty restaurants. There were a few nights, of the 11, that the dining room didn't have anything of interest to me or DH. Nancy
thedrunkrock Posted June 10, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 10, 2004 The answer would be if you would rather eat steak type food, or Italian Food, both are great.
cruisingrightalong Posted June 10, 2004 Author #12 Share Posted June 10, 2004 Never eaten in Portofino's...however have done CHOPS twice and would do again in a heartbeat! canucks4 Posted June 10, 2004 #14 Share Posted June 10, 2004 We did the ultimate caribbean in March 2004 and it was great - yes, two formal nights - the first one during the first sea day, and the second the first sea day after all the port calls. Yes go to the Murder Mystery night - an extra $50. per but worth the laughs and fun - that is in Portofino's and will give you a good sampling of their food and service. We also did Chops and it was well worth the money, excellent ambiance, food, service. Beautiful ship, great ports, you'll enjoy it.
stretch Posted June 10, 2004 #15 Share Posted June 10, 2004 Hi again Deb, no I'm not stalking you! We were also on the Brilliance 11 day in March. Do sign up for the Murder Mystery, it was lots of fun. I guess you'll be going to Labadee, just wish we had been able to, Freeport was OK, it just wasn't Labadee. Have fun and say Hi to Capt. greybear Posted June 10, 2004 #16 Share Posted June 10, 2004 Hi all, Thank you so much for the great information. DH and I will be doing this cruise on Nov. 22, 2004 (during your Thanksgiving; we are Canadians so it will be a nice experience for us to see how another country celebrates this holdiday). I have been trying to coordinate our Chops and Portofino reservations while making sure that we do not miss any of the formal nights. We will follow the recommendations posted herein and do the Murder Mystery for Portofino. I would like to know on which night the Murder Mystery falls and if people dress up (formal) for it or not. I would appreciate any input, Thanks in advance, GB
stretch Posted June 10, 2004 #17 Share Posted June 10, 2004 Greybear, the Murder Mystery was on a casual night so just dress casually. I'm sorry but I can't remember what day it was held. When you board, go to Portofino's and sign up. There will be someone there to take your reservation. Stretch p.s. - Our Thanksgiving is the same as you Canucks. We've been celebrating both for several years now, even in the south.
greybear Posted June 10, 2004 #18 Share Posted June 10, 2004 Stretch, Thank you for the info. I can't imagine a better place to watch Thanksgiving Footblaa than on a cruise ship in the caribbean! GB

On our last cruise, it didn't open until after 5:00 p.m., but on the previous years cruise it was open for all 4 rounds of the masters from around 2:00. The bar manager can make it happen for you.
