Young-Cruiser Posted July 12, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2010 I am sailing out of Mobile on the Elation in August and would like to know which way the ship will be facing at sail away. This determines whether I will be on the Lido deck or on the "Secret Door" deck.
tef43 Posted July 12, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 12, 2010 Huh? In your scenario, what difference does it really make? You're not required to stay on any specific part of the ship during sailaway. It also may be moot, as the ship may depart while the passengers are still at muster drill.
Rare dna1990 Posted July 12, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2010 Hopefully it will be facing the Gulf.
Quigley10 Posted July 12, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2010 I think it will be facing forward... :p
Sargent_Schultz Posted July 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2010 I'll guess the ship will be facing E to SE when they untie from the dock, but the pointy end will quickly turn to head South until the ship exits Mobile Bay.

mclinns04 Posted July 13, 2010 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2010 OK! I've been on 4 cruises and have never heard of a "secret door" deck. Just what/where is it? My curiosity is definitely roused!!!!!
TMWTim Posted July 13, 2010 #9 Share Posted July 13, 2010 OK! I've been on 4 cruises and have never heard of a "secret door" deck. Just what/where is it? My curiosity is definitely roused!!!!! Just about every class ship. Open your cabin door and go all the way forward of the ship. Open the door you come to then open the next door you come to. Not really a secret but it opens to the outside where there are small areas to hang out all the way forward.
NavarreCruiser Posted July 14, 2010 #10 Share Posted July 14, 2010 You will either start going straight to the gulf through the channel which is south west or you'll go to the turning basin which is north east then turn around and head out to the gulf. It depends on if the captain turned the ship around in the morning or not. We've it both ways many times. Lynda
Cruzman Posted July 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted July 14, 2010 The majority of the time, the ship will be facing toward the south (Gulf of Mexico). As Navarre Cruiser stated however, there are times when the Captain will elect to utilize the turning basin in the afternoon rather than early morning (usually weather related). The result is that the ship will face toward the north when you board. In either instance, the ship will eventually be heading south toward the Gulf.
