Quick Sea Princess Review

Thank you for your review. We will be sailing on Aug. 30th and are wondering if the Sea Princess has "happy hour" from 4-7 for Platinum and Elite passengers and if so where is it held. AND, do they also offer the $2.99 for certain drinks from 8 p.m. on? Thanks!

We sailed on the July 1 cruise, and they did not offer it. I checked with Captain's Circle rep and she said that because the size of the ship, they didn't have the space. I was disappointed, only because I had read comments about what a nice perk it was. Oh well, next time.

They do offer the reduced priced drinks after 8:00 p.m.

Thank you for your response. We are really disappointed that they do not have the "happy hour" on this ship. It is a really nice perk and we so enjoyed it on the Caribbean Princess in June. Oh well, it is what it is!

And on second thought, it would be good to turn in a comment card suggesting Princess revisit their policy - not to have the elite/platium cocktail perk on the smaller ships. I think I will turn a comment card in after boarding.

 

We really enjoyed thi perk on the Ruby Princess, on our Transatlantic.

 

We use to go and get a beer, we skipped their special cocktails since we are not into mixed drinks. Enjoyed the goodies that were offered to go along with the drinks.

 

How difficult is this to do on a smaller ship really??? This shortsided by Princess.

I am confused. My parents just got off the Sea Princess Alaska about 2 weeks ago and they tell me as I type this that there WAS a happy hour!?! Are you sure you were not given incorrect information?

Just back from our Sea Princess cruise go Alaska. We have had 20 cruises and so I offer this feedback based on comparison to many other cruise lines (5 to be exact)

 

POSITIVE OBSERVATIONS

 

1. MDR food and service excellent

2. Most staff very focused on providing excellent service

3. While the ship is 12 years old it is in very good condition and very clean

4. Cushions on some of the chairs around the pool (a little thing but important to me)

5. Did not try and constantly sell things like other lines often do

6. Very few PA announcements

7. Heated pools!!!!

 

AREAS OF CONCERN

 

1. Buffet food very poor compared to other lines

2. Decision made to bypass the advertised Tracy Arm leg of the trip for Endicot Arm and the Dawes Glacier due to "traffic". Dawes Glacier is much less majestic and not near as impressive. Big mistake!!! Many on the ship very upset by this last minute decision including us.

3. Stop at Haines Alaska for 12 hours a complete waste of time. There is little to do here and frankly many were bored with this small town.

4. Cabins were very small compared to other lines we have been on.

5. If your a gambler this is the smallest casino by far I have ever seen on a cruise ship. (if your not a gambler of course you won't mind)

 

Overall I would give this cruise a score of 7 out of 10 and this because Alaska is such a beautiful destination. Some may disagree with this short review but this is our humble opinion.

For Ketchican...if your ship docks "in town", I suggest you take a walk around for a while and then return to the ship if nothing more appeals to you. We did not book an excursion, but we looked at the noted sights, went back on board for lunch and then went out again and took a Duck Tour. That made a relaxing, inexpensive and interesting day.

there is a "happy hour", they call it "power hour" at the bars, starting at 8pm to closing. $2.99 cocktails.

I think the confusion lies with the fact that what you are describing is apparently open to everyone at all bars. The original question had to do with special daily evening receptions that are offered in a specified lounge on other classes of Princess ships for Platinum, Elite and Suite passengers. They are by invitation only usually via a card delivered to the stateroom at the beginning of the cruise that outlines the offerings for the entire week.

 

It appears that this perk is not offered on the Sea Princess due to a lack of a lounge in which to hold it each evening.
