katieralph Posted July 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2010 We asked this when we went to Bermuda from Boston in May and had the easiest trip on the Boston buses for $2. Any ideas for Florida. We're going through the Panama Canal on HAL in November. Thanks.;)
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2010 The cheapest way is just taking a taxi. It's a short, convenient and relatively inexpensive ride. Keith
luvs2travl Posted July 30, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2010 By cab - about $15.00 or so! What HAL ship will you be on in November? We did the FLL - SD full canal transit LAST November on the "Oosterdam" - FABULOUS trip! You will love it!
sail7seas Posted July 30, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2010 I agree about the taxi. It is about 10 minutes and $13 or so dollars.
vmom Posted July 30, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2010 The port and airport are very close to you. A taxi is both the cheapest and fastest way. It can't be more than a 10 minute drive depending on traffic.

concour Posted July 31, 2010 #11 Share Posted July 31, 2010 Just back from a cruise out of Ft Lauderdale. A taxi to the pier was right at $15 and the return was $2.50 cheaper. There is a $2.50 charge for taxis originating from the airport. There was no wait to get the taxis.
katieralph Posted July 31, 2010 Author #12 Share Posted July 31, 2010 Had hoped for a cheap bus or trolley. Cab fare sounds fine. Hiking with suitcases won't work. Thanks for all the quick responses. We're on the Statendam out of San Diego for 14 days with our single 36 year old daughter who is treating us to this trip. Really looking forward to a great time.:D
Dancer Bob Posted July 31, 2010 #13 Share Posted July 31, 2010 The absolutely cheapest is to walk to 17 Street, then take the Broward County #40, connect to the #1 bus, $3. But if you're a typical HAL passenger, a taxi is by far the best choice.
euro cruiser Posted July 31, 2010 #14 Share Posted July 31, 2010 There are shared vans, but they're not much cheaper than a cab and you have to wait until they are filled. From the airport web site: (http://www.broward.org/Airport/About/Pages/FAQs.aspx#tport) How do I get to Port Everglades? Located less than four miles from FLL, there are three transportation options: shared ride, luxury sedan, and taxi cab. 1. Shared Ride Shared van rides offered through GO Airport Shuttle cost $11 per person to Port Everglades. A van will hold a maximum of ten passengers. 2. Luxury Sedan GO Airport Shuttle also offer luxury sedan rides to Port Everglades for $40 (for up to four people). Contact For more information, visit GO Airport Shuttle or call 800-244-8252/ 954-561-8888. 3. Taxi Cab Taxi cabs are also available at $12 (estimated) based on the meter reading. Cabs accept up to five people for the fare stated on the taxi's meter. Contact Call Yellow Cab at 954-777-7777 for more information. Check-In at Transportation Podiums Check-in for the shared ride, luxury sedan, and taxi cab are at the Transportation Podiums. The podiums are located outside the baggage area in each terminal on the lower level by the curb. Fees Fees listed above are subject to change so call for the latest prices or check the rate comparison chart. The rate charts are posted on the podiums and on the walls near terminal exits in the baggage claim areas. Operational Hours The taxi cabs operate 24/7. GO Airport Shuttle services (for shared ride and luxury sedan) are available for all incoming flights. If you need their service more than a few hours after the last fight arrives, contact them by phone. Waiting Times Maximum wait is 30 minutes for the shared van ride. Most vans leave within 10 minutes. Luxury sedan service and taxi cabs are generally available immediately. Travel Time Travel time from FLL to Port Everglades is about 10 minutes, but may vary depending on traffic. We suggest allowing a minimum of 45 minutes between your flight arrival time and scheduled check-in time at Port Everglades.
Wingtips56 Posted July 31, 2010 #15 Share Posted July 31, 2010 I'd recommend the taxi as well. It's easy and one price for the car, not paid by the head as with shared rides. You can't really get any cheaper without it becoming more hassle than it's worth ("Time is money!"). You don't have to wait for the bus to fill up and then creep along, stopping at everyone else's airline entrance at the airport before finally getting to yours. I've had to run out and put my bags back on that were taken off at the wrong stop. In other ports, taxi is usually the most expensive because the airport is farther away. But not at FLL. Hindsight is always best....we had booked the ship's bus coming back at FLL not knowing how close it was to the airport. It cost us an unnecessary fortune and took forever. Rare mitsugirly Posted August 1, 2010 #16 Share Posted August 1, 2010 Can someone clarify for me...maybe I'm just confused on where this OP is coming from. Are they cruising out of Miami and trying to get to FLL airport? Or somewhere else?

centurycruiser Posted August 2, 2010 #23 Share Posted August 2, 2010 HAL doesn't sail from Miami. Taxis are frequently less expensive than transfers because you only have to pay once. FLL, MIA, SJU, LGA, SAN, SEA, BOS, HNL, YVR, PHL all cheaper by taxi. I am sure there are others.
CPT Trips Posted August 2, 2010 #24 Share Posted August 2, 2010 OP could take a rental car shuttle from the cruise terminal over to the car rental facility and then transfer to a shuttle to the terminal :p
MadameButterfly Posted August 2, 2010 #25 Share Posted August 2, 2010 Walking through that area is a sure-fire deathwish. Just hop in a taxi, they know where to go and it'll get you there fast. We've cruised out of FLL and taken the quick taxi ride from FLL to the Port Everglades Cruise Terminal each time with no problem, no hold up, easy-peasy.
