How Much

My wife and I brought $100 each in cash, but $80 of it was in $1.00 bills for use in tiping and the like. Very easy to lock up in the safe, as there's not much need for cash itself on board, as we used our S&S cards.

the size of a stack of singles, 80 tall will not fold or fit in a pocket real easy.. dont bring $80 in singles, where do you keep them before you put it in the safe.

to answer the OP ... i will bring about $1000 in cash because i play blackjack.

10 $100 bills will fold nicley in my pocket and no one will know I have that much on me

Wow..this thread has evolved since my last peak...

I spent around 300 on my sign and sail for a 4 day..but I had 2 spa specials which was more than 1/2 of that...

I carrey very little tip money..maybe 50 ones or so for that amount of time and only use then for

room service, baggage, water in airport and add a dollar to the drink tips...

Anything I can tip on paper..except for little xtras like drinks and room service..I do. I added a bit xtra gratuity on my sign and sail acct last time for the steward and all..I did get pick pocketed at 20 in the Monte Carlo Casino..stupidly watching my one franc play go around in the slots holding my wallat like a dufus loosely..in those momments..around 75 bucks in french francs and a fortune to me then as a student traveller..gone for good!!!

I wonder how many pick pockets are paying attention to this thread.

I bring about $100/day, and I leave it in my safe.

Every couple of days I'll go down and pay off the balance. Left the ship with only $39 on card last time.

We have about two drinks/day, wife gambles about $200/trip.

Oh, and am a proud sponsor of Rum-Runners charitable group.

Here's what we do:

  • Extra tips for staff = $90/cruise (MD, steward, Wait staff, ass'ts.)
  • Excursion = $100/day
  • Singles for drinks & room service = $10/day
  • Casino = $40/day ($20/person/day) We're cheap! (Our rule is: win over $100, cash out, less than that- keep playing.)

This helps us budget for each cruise, regardless of days. We pre-pay our OBC with Funship$'s all year, so our spa visits, shopping, steak house, & drinks are covered.

I bring about $500 in $100's. Always break them @ purser or casino.

This time i'am bringing $100 in peso's.

For the Riviera? How far does that go for basic 3 stops and self-assisted transport to a feature in each stop..have no idea..had to cancel my Riviera cruise..so I have time..:p

I'am assuming you mean the peso's? It would be for cabs, Rx's etc.

I can get about 1200 peso's @ my bank w/no fee. What i don't use i return it to the bk w/ no fee.

I can't find the answer to this question: Can we prepay our tips? I've heard that they hold a large amount on your credit card, and we don't have a large credit limit. We don't gamble or drink a lot, so it would be nice to not lock up our credit card.

Great post.. I was wondering the same thing. One of our stops is St. Thomas. We did some great shopping there a few years ago. Remember that if you are making any larger purchases they are usually covered by your credit card insurance. We purchased a camera there.. and when it was stolen when I went to the DR a few months later I got the full amount back from Mastercard. First time I had ever used that insurance.. but it was so worth it!!

My last cruise I had almost $1000.00 on my S&S mostly Booze. I brought 600 all small bills I felt like Vegas rich man...You should have seen the teller at my bank when I walked in and Asked for 600 cash all in 5's and 1's the look was priceless....Hope this helps

Great idea on the $5's and $1's. We didn't have enough for tipping last week and were scrambling for change. Next time definetly more smaller bills.

Yes you can prepay your tips. When I booked both of our cruises on the Carnival website I had the mandatory $70 per person added to our fare. If you've all ready made your final payment give them a call and arrange to pay the tips before you sail. I only have a debit card and didn't want any funds "held" on that either. I did NOT give them my debit card or a credit card on embarkation day. I put cash on our S&S account around $150 total for myself and 3 teens. I added maybe another $50-$75 during the cruise. It worked beautifully!!!

Oh thank you! I kind of thought that was the case, but I feel better after hearing that you actually did that. :)

In cash, not that much really. Maybe $300 - $400 in cash and then a lot in travelor check.

Just a word of caution, a lot of places are getting leery of TC's due to the larger and larger problem with counterfeits. Unfortuantely, even Cashier Checks are being looked at more closely when they used to be as good as gold.

Pickpocket wise, I use a front pocket wallet - not foolproof but they have to pick my front pocket which is more difficult than back.
