No charge for towels and chairs at the beach/pool area but I believe there is a charge for the beach umbrella. If you are paying the resort fee, then part of that fee includes the umbrella.

Ocean can be a little rough, but nice beach for sitting. Towels and chairs are provided for

hotel guests. If you are there on week-ends, there may be steel band or other music

by the pool. Fun place!

Thanks FRANKM $25 per night sounds good to me. After I got my confirmation # from Priceline I did call and told them I would like a ocean view room if available. I will also be sure to ask again at check in.

I got an insolent representative when I called to request an upgrade. She told me to call Priceline.

i was just looking at yelp.com for restaurant reviews for our stay at the Marriot. One of the cafes was called Bebos and it sounded like cheap eats for breakfast. It sounds fairly close. Anybody eaten there? Are the streets easy to walk? Bad neighborhoods? Thanks to all.

Also just booked this hotel through Priceline for $110.

My fiance is all about the pool, on trip advisor everyone keeps saying the pool is very shallow? Can anyone comment on this who has stayed here? Also, I heard some reviewers say the swim up bar wasnt open, does anyone have any experience with this?

We are staying one night post cruise to have a un-wind relaxing pool day before out Bio-Bay tour that night so the pool is VERY important.

Thanks!

We were there earlier this year,in March. We took a taxi from the airport to the cruise terminal and it was $19 (for the group of 4-not per person) and $1 per bag. SJ is broken up into Zones, so it may be a little less, as the hotel is closer than the pier. It was very easy to catch a taxi. When you go outside the terminal, there is a taxi stand, you tell them how many and where you are going, and they get you on your way. IMHO it is organized and efficient.

In March 2011, we will be staying at the Marriott Stellaris. If you go sooner, would you please post on this thread your feedback on the property? Thank you in advance!

Safe travels to you...

We love this property! We have stayed there before our PR cruises, and have spent a week for a land vacation. The pool is not set up for doing laps or anything - the deepest it goes is 6 ft. So you can go underwater - but no diving.

The beach is lovely, but the waves are rough - this is the Atlantic - not the Caribbean. The sand is a little rough, but no problem for bare feet.

The lobby is rocking on the weekend - live salsa music, and dancing - the casino is next door. late night - check out the Chinese food in the casino! Tapas in the lobby are wonderful as well.

Yerba Buena is very good - excellent Mojitos! Starbuck's across the street is conveinant.

Hope that helps!

Just stayed here on 9/24.... Beautiful property, close to everything. We commented on how nice it would be to stay here for a land vacaction! Staff is so friendly, the lobby was awesome to sit, relax, and watch all the salsa dancing, as there was a great live band there on that Saturday night. We asked when we checked in, if we could upgrade to ocean view or pool view, and got a great room for a $25 a night upgrade. ( Bought the room on Priceline for $110 a night) We seemed to be handing out $20 for taxi's. ($14-19) most of the time. In front of the hotel, there always were a few taxis parked out there. In fact, when we landed at SJU, we had our luggage, and had a taxi within 10 minutes, and were on our way to the hotel, about 10 minutes away.

Here are couple of shots from our balcony...

Bebos is down the street from the Doubletree Hotel. Its a local place with PR food. We had lunch and breakfast there, inexpensive and good food.
